Construction is Underway

After receiving approval of Plan of Operations 11 (POA 11) in March 2020, Coeur officially launched construction in August 2020. POA 11 will expand the mine’s life to 2033 by modifying and adding to the existing operation infrastructure. Construction operations include: Expansion of the Rochester and Packard Pits Relocation of spent ore from Stage I Heap Leach Pad (HLP) and a portion of Stage II HLP to Stage V HLP Construction of two new heap leach pads: Limerick Canyon Stave VI and Packard Construction of two new processing facilities - Limerick and Packard Increase in waste rock storage capacity Construction of two new Rochester and Packard crushing systems Enhancements to site utilities and infrastructure

Traffic Alerts

At its peak, 300 people will be employed in construction labor and most will be commuting from Fallon, Lovelock and Winnemucca. With both public and worker safety at the forefront of construction operations, Coeur will provide bus transportation for construction personnel to and from the site starting in early 2021. This will help reduce the amount of traffic on Limerick Canyon Road reducing carbon emissions and preventing exposure to vehicular incidents.  Members of the public using Limerick Canyon Road are encouraged to drive with extreme caution as construction trucks and equipment can be entering and exiting the roadway. When driving through the work zone, always obey construction signs and speed limits.

Community Involvement

A construction kick-off event was held online on August 12 to celebrate the start of construction for POA 11. Attendees were able to hear from Coeur’s Project Management Team and learn about construction operations and the benefits of the project.  A community kick-off event is planned at the start of civil work (prior to peak construction) in early Spring 2021. Details of the event are to be determined, but advanced notice will be provided and everyone in the community is encouraged to participate!

Meet Our Team

Coeur has hired SNC-Lavalin, along with their local subsidiary company Atkins, and NewFields to perform engineering, procurement, and construction and project management services for POA 11. SNC-Lavalin is a Canadian-based company that has over 65 years of global expertise in mining and metallurgy while Atkins brings locally respected construction management services to the team. NewFields is a global environmental, engineering and construction management consulting firm with extensive local mining expertise. We’ve ensured our project team holds the same set of values that we have when it comes to safety, community, environment, and economy, and we are excited to have them involved.
