Cold Weather Advisory

As winter weather conditions continue to impact our area, we want to inform the community that we are currently under a Cold Weather Advisory effective from 6 PM this Sunday until 12 noon on Monday. During this period, residents should be prepared for dangerously low wind chills, which could plummet to between -20 and -25 degrees. This significant drop in temperature poses a risk of frostbite and hypothermia for those exposed to the cold for extended periods. We urge everyone to take necessary precautions, such as dressing in layers, limiting outdoor activities, and ensuring that pets are kept warm and sheltered. Stay safe and keep an eye on local weather updates for any further advisories.

Cold Weather Safety Tips

As the temperatures drop and winter approaches, it is crucial to prioritize your safety while enjoying the great outdoors. Cold weather can pose serious risks such as frostbite and hypothermia if proper precautions are not taken. Here are some essential tips to help you stay warm and protected during cold weather activities:

1. Layer Up: Dressing in layers is key to maintaining body heat. Opt for loose-fitting, lightweight clothing that can trap heat without restricting movement. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your skin, add insulating layers for warmth, and finish with a waterproof and windproof outer layer to shield against the elements.

2. Keep Your Head Covered: A significant amount of body heat is lost through the head, so wearing a warm hat is essential. Choose a hat that covers your ears and is made from materials that retain heat while also allowing moisture to escape.

3. Protect Your Breathing: When exposed to extreme cold, its important to protect your lungs. Cover your mouth with a scarf or a face mask to warm the air before it enters your lungs, reducing the risk of respiratory issues.

4. Choose Mittens Over Gloves: While gloves can be useful, mittens are often a better choice in cold weather. Mittens keep your fingers together, which helps to conserve heat. Ensure they fit snugly at the wrist to prevent cold air from entering.

By following these cold weather safety tips, you can enjoy winter activities while minimizing the risk of cold-related injuries. Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy the beauty of the winter season!

Supervisor to Chair Ex-Committee of HCDC

Lake Villa Township Supervisor Daniel Venturi has been elected as the Chair of the Lake County Housing & Community Development Commission Executive Committee, a pivotal role in shaping housing and community development initiatives within the region. The Commission plays a crucial part in the local administration of several federal programs and grants, including the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), and the Emergency Solutions Grant Program (ESG). These programs are essential for addressing various community needs, providing funding for affordable housing, and delivering emergency assistance to those in need.

As Chair, Venturi will lead the Executive Committee of the Commission in developing the Consolidated Housing and Community Development Plan, which involves a comprehensive assessment of community needs, setting priorities, and establishing actionable goals. These goals are instrumental in guiding the Commission's decision-making process regarding the allocation of funding for various activities on an annual basis. The Commission's oversight extends to several millions of dollars in local grants each year, making it a vital entity for fostering community growth and resilience.
