Eleven Projects in Progress!
|
|
Construction begins at Gateway Domestic Violence Center
We're working hard all over metro Atlanta to provide safe, dignified housing and outreach programs for families and individuals in need. Despite pandemic challenges facing builders, the spirit of generosity remains strong! Home builders and trades continue to provide overwhelming support for HomeAid Atlanta, as evidenced by these projects in progress:
Ascensa Health at St. Jude’s Recovery Center: Bradley Hall of Hall Design Build leads this project with help from Vince Longo of Vincent Longo Custom Builders, Ken Warlick of Harrison Homes, and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association Remodelers Council. Eight beds will be preserved, and two more added. Currently in permitting phase.
Covenant House of Georgia: HomeAid is assisting with paint donations thanks to Sherwin-Williams, and brick and masonry donations thanks to Meridian Brick & Masonry Supply and Argos, for this 30-bed new construction project.
Crossroads Community Ministries: Build out of supportive services area in progress, to include offices and storage, in an existing building that provides meals in downtown Atlanta. David Barrett of BA Barrett Construction leads this project. Crossroads provides meals, mailbox services, assistance with getting IDs, medical care and housing assistance for up to 6,000 people per year.
The Drake House: Major plumbing repairs, updating kitchens and bathrooms at The Drake House's two emergency housing buildings. Led by Builder Captain Tom Bowers of Lennar, this project will preserve 51 beds. The first building is nearly complete. Tomorrow, August 27, volunteers from Ashton Woods will complete demolition on the second building.
Gateway Domestic Violence Center: A dding 37 beds at Gateway Domestic Violence Center in Hall County. The project is led by CBI General Contractors. Christian Santos of Precision Framing and Siding LLC is providing major support for this project. Photo above.
Gigi's House: New construction in Clayton County to help teen girls escaping sex trafficking, adding 10 beds. In early construction phase.
Gigi’s House, Admin Building: Builder Captain: Meritage Homes. Currently in the design phase, with great thanks to YSM Design.
Making A Way Housing: Jeff Brock of Brock Built Homes heads up this renovation. Sixteen beds will be preserved. Currently in the planning phase. This will be HomeAid's fourth building renovation at Making A Way.
North Georgia Angel House: Five tiny apartments for girls transitioning out of the foster care system in progress. Builder Captains: Austin Lineberry of New River Building Company and Ronnie Cline of Taylor Morrison.

Project Spotlight: Gilgal
On August 20, volunteers joined us for a HomeAid Care Day at Gilgal to kick off a renovation project! Our friends from Vincent Longo Custom Builders, HB NEXT, and Quantum National Bank spent the day working hard on several big projects around the home.
Care Day volunteers performed demolition in the kitchen, removing cabinets and countertops, installed new lighting and flooring, painted, took down wood railings on the front porch, fixed a fence and rid the grounds of many unwanted and unused items. Gilgal provides housing and programs for women overcoming drug addiction and homelessness.
Another Care Day is scheduled for August 28, with volunteers from Whitefield Academy.
Floor and Decor, CR Home, and Founders Kitchen & Bath are providing donations and deep discounts of materials for this project.
Vince Longo of Vincent Longo Custom Builders is leading this renovation project, which is expected to run through the next couple of weeks. Vince and his company have generously volunteered to cover remaining costs after donations for this project.

Volunteer Opportunity: Veterans Project
|
We're looking for an architect to take these plans and fully develop them into construction drawings. Drawings will include the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) engineering plans in order to establish a budget and apply for a permit to house up to 40 veterans experiencing homelessness in partnership with our project at the Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program.

Volunteer Spotlight: Ronnie Cline
|
Because of longtime HomeAid supporters like Ronnie Cline, Taylor Morrison Area Construction Manager, HomeAid Atlanta continues to make a positive impact toward ending homelessness in metro Atlanta.
In 2016, Ronnie was integral to our Care Day at Phoenix Pass in Conyers. He and the CalAtlantic Homes team installed cabinets for HomeAid’s eight-unit apartment building. The following year, Ronnie and CalAtlantic again assisted HomeAid with major support for a HomeAid Care Project - a renovation of Haven ATL’s drop-in center. Haven ATL, a program of the Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta, serves women who are victims of commercial sexual exploitation.
Ronnie moved to Taylor Morrison Atlanta in 2018, and once again stepped up to help. He led volunteers during a Care Day to complete demolition in preparation for HomeAid’s renovation of The Drake Village at The Drake House, which now provides longer-term housing for single mothers and their children transitioning out of homelessness.
Ronnie and Taylor Morrison continue to partner with HomeAid at North Georgia Angel House (NGAH), a Canton home for girls and young women in, and transitioning from, foster care. In keeping with the yearly tradition, in 2019 Ronnie and his team completed a total kitchen remodel at NGAH, oversaw additional repairs, and performed major landscaping upgrades and flooding remediation. Realizing there was more work to do, in 2020, Ronnie and Taylor Morrison returned to NGAH to complete a bathroom renovation. Currently, Taylor Morrison, through Ronnie’s leadership, is co-Builder Captain for HomeAid’s transformation of a metal storage unit into tiny apartments for young women aging out of foster care at NGAH, in partnership with New River Building Company.
Thank you, Ronnie, for your dedication and leadership in support of HomeAid Atlanta! We are grateful for your continued involvement, wonderful attitude, and dedication to helping people in need.
