Collaboration drives transportation advocacy work

Tuesday's Boston Globe featured a story on the effort to establish and fund an MBTA program for riders with low incomes. We were pleased to see advocates from the Massachusetts Senior Action Council (MSAC) in one of the accompanying photos. Here’s the link to the article. Please note the article is behind a paywall.

MSAC is working collaboratively with several community organizations to champion equitable, inclusive transportation solutions. Among their community partners are GreenRootsLivableStreets AllianceWalkBoston and the Massachusetts Public Health Associationall Foundation supported organizations.

N.H. funders discuss changing landscape of philanthropy

The pandemic challenged many sectors and organizations to think differently—that included philanthropy. A group of New Hampshire funders recently came together to discuss and learn about What's Next for Philanthropy in the 2020s, a new report from Deloitte's Monitor Institute.

Monitor's Gabriel Kasper shared his perspective on seven big shifts reshaping our world: economic inequality, extreme political polarization, shifting demographics, new momentum around racial justice, ubiquitous technology and access to information, a state of climate and social emergency and a social compact in flux. He noted many of our traditional structures and approaches may not be the best fit in today's world.

Nora Moreno Cargie, president of the Point32Health Foundation and vice president of Corporate Citizenship joined a panel to share insights into how we are listening to community to help us rethink philanthropy's role, learn how to share and use power, mobilize the assets of other stakeholders, and redesign our organizations to create more impact.

Tri-State Learning Collaborative on Aging Summit

The Foundation sponsored this week's Tri-State Learning Collaborative on Aging “Time to Care” Summit. The day-long event focused on creating and nurturing a culture of care across generations, communities and systems.

The Tri-State Collaborative is helping to build strong communities that support healthy aging through shared learning and collaborative partnerships in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Building camaraderie in community

Building close bonds with team members can be difficult during a pandemic. Claire Levesque, M.D., vice president and chief medical officer for Commercial Products, and Leslie Parsons-Shuquom, senior clinical consultant, have fostered connections among the Clinical Strategies team by encouraging volunteerism.

Last fall, the team volunteered together at Community Servings in Jamaica Plain to assemble 1,400 medically tailored meals for local residents coping with critical and chronic illnesses. "It was a really enjoyable, satisfying and meaningful experience because you know what you're doing really matters," said Leslie. “With new members joining our team, this activity was an invaluable part of team bonding."

Claire and Leslie recommend team volunteering as a way to build camaraderie and give back to community. “It was wonderful that we could take a half day during a work week to volunteer and be supported by Point32Health and the Foundation because giving back is part of our jobs,” said Claire.

Better, bolder and brighter

Corporate Citizenship demonstrates our organization's commitment to communities and forms our corporate culture. To help our team navigate the changing landscape of employee engagement, service and giving, several team members attended the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship's International Corporate Citizenship Conference this week.

The conference was filled with opportunities to learn from our peers and experts in the sector. Topics ranged from colleague communications and engagement in a hybrid work environment to developing community-centered partnerships.

Stacey Mann, director of Corporate Citizenship, represented the Foundation on a panel discussing how to navigate the new landscape of volunteering.
