MESSAGE FROM HEADQUARTERS | |
As we reflect on the past year and prepare for the year ahead, the role of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) has never felt more relevant and important. For more than 50 years, NFID has collaborated with a wide range of diverse stakeholders and trusted messengers to reduce the burden of infectious diseases in the US and empower people to make informed decisions about their health. Collaboration is a central theme in all of our work.
NFID works with many partners in Leading by Example, and during National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW), we shared messaging and resources to emphasize that as long as flu viruses are circulating, it is not too late to get vaccinated. In collaboration with the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, and American Diabetes Association, NFID emphasized that vaccines help save lives and getting vaccinated against flu each year is the best line of defense to help protect individuals, families, and communities from serious disease and related complications.

On World Pneumonia Day NFID collaborated with the American Lung Association to raise awareness among US adults age 50+ about the importance of pneumococcal vaccines to help lower the risk for pneumonia and related complications. NFID is also collaborating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and US Food and Drug Administration on an upcoming webinar addressing COVID-19 Updates and Best Practices on January 7, 2025.
As part of our continued commitment to reduce health disparities and empower trusted messengers, NFID launched a new collaboration with the National Council of Negro Women Good Health WINs (NCNW) to raise awareness about the importance of protecting Black communities across the US from preventable infectious diseases, including flu, COVID-19, pneumococcal disease, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Our work would not be possible without the generosity and support of our many partners, donors, and stakeholders. We are deeply grateful to all who have supported NFID over the past year. If you have not yet made a gift this year, there is still time to make a difference! Thanks to the commitment of NFID leadership, gifts received before the end of the year will be matched—doubling the impact of your support!
For those wishing to make an even greater impact, I invite you to join me as a member of the NFID 1973 Giving Society, an inspiring group of dedicated supporters who have pledged ongoing contributions to help fund critical programs that advance the NFID mission. Together, we can help ensure a healthier future for all.
As 2024 comes to an end, I would like to offer my heartfelt appreciation for your continued support and wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season ...
With warm regards,
Marla
