Collado Engineering Quarterly Update

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: A Throwback with New Purpose

Long before we were designing high-performance buildings, many of us first learned about sustainability from a colorful classroom poster that proudly proclaimed: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. It was simple, memorable, and it stuck with us—long before we knew where it would lead.

"Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" taught us early on that smart choices could shape a cleaner future, and its rhythm is still hard to forget. Today, its message is charging into the MEP and Energy engineering landscape with new force. Through electrification, thoughtful system design, and efficiency-driven engineering, we’re turning that simple childhood mantra into measurable performance gains that reduce waste and maximize how buildings use energy. This focus on sustainability sets the pace for everything we do at Collado Engineering from concept to commissioning.

REDUCE: The highest form of efficiency is eliminating the need for supply.

The first “R”—Reduce—was always the starting point, the one we could recite without thinking. Today, its childhood simplicity carries a new weight as it guides how we shape energy-efficient buildings.

Reducing demand is central to sustainable performance. Through intelligent design, MEP systems limit consumption and maximize performance, while minimizing waste.

Project Report

God's Love We Deliver

New York, NY

Energy efficiency plays a key role in our work, and this commitment is especially evident in our partnership with God’s Love We Deliver, a non-profit that provides medically tailored meals to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other serious illnesses and operates nearly 24/7 out of a 40,000-square-foot warehouse to produce more than two million meals annually.

In preparation for upcoming Local Law 97 emissions requirements, our team is conducting a comprehensive energy audit to evaluate existing systems, utility consumption, and building operations. The findings will guide a set of targeted energy conservation measures aimed at lowering energy use and reducing carbon emissions. All these efforts are part of an Energy Master Plan we are preparing for the non-profit.

This project reflects our commitment to helping mission-driven organizations like God’s Love We Deliver operate more efficiently and sustainably while continuing to serve the community.

Firm Updates

At Collado Engineering, energy efficiency isn’t an afterthought. It is a core design principle embedded into every project from day one. Our multidisciplinary energy team includes Chris Mias, Principal and Head of the Mechanical Department; Sarath Davuluru, Energy Engineer; Alex Franciamore, Mechanical Engineer; and Matt Vilaboy, Electrical Engineer. They work directly within our design process, and because they are hands-on engineers shaping the systems and infrastructure themselves, energy considerations are built into the first conversation rather than added later.

This early involvement allows the team to identify opportunities to reduce energy use, optimize or reuse existing systems, and reimagine how buildings and communities manage energy. Together, they also guide our clients through local law compliance and help uncover meaningful energy conservation measures.
