Give me two claps and a strike, Florida A&M University is getting its first bobblehead character.
FAMU is one of 13 historically Black colleges and universities that will be featured in the first segment of the HBCU Bobblehead Series released Friday by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
As a participant of the HBCU Series, FAMU and the other featured schools will receive a percentage of the sales for each bobblehead sold from their respective schools.
“There's been more attention on a national level given to HBCUs, rightfully so,” said National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum Co-Founder and CEO Phil Sklar. “As we saw more of that we realized ‘hey, there’s never been bobbleheads for these schools and they’ve been around for a long time.’”
The series has been in the designing and planning stages for a year.
“FAMU was definitely one that was on our initial list,” Sklar told the Tallahassee Democrat Wednesday. He said the company also had been getting request from FAMU supporters to feature what he called “a cool mascot."
The bobblehead will feature Florida A&M’s mascot decorated in a citrus orange and agricultural green outfit with “FAMU” plastered on the front of the “Venom” character’s shirt. The figure sits on a base reading “Rattlers” and the signature Florida A&M logo is on the back of the stand.
Each FAMU bobblehead is individualized with numbers up to 2,023 etched on the bottom.
Sklar said connecting the series to the year it was unveiled adds to the “collectible value”, as owners pass them down from generation to generation.
How to purchase the FAMU bobblehead
The 2,023 bobbleheads are only available for purchase on the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s online store for $35 and an extra $8 for shipping.
Shipping is expected to begin in June.
