Students Explore Pathway Options
Over 1,400 8th grade students from APS middle schools explored over 50 college & career pathways at the annual College & Career Academies 8th Grade Showcase. Student leaders and teachers showcased their pathways, facilitated an activity and answered questions of inquisitive students. The event was held on October 24 at Quaker Station.

Two Academies Named at East Community Learning Center
Bridgestone Americas and KeyBank signed agreements to become named integrated partners to the academies at East CLC. The academies are now called the Bridgestone Academy of Global Industry and Design and the KeyBank Academy of Business and Health Services.

Sister Universities and Colleges Introduced
A College & Career Academy sister university/college partnership uses the strengths of the post-secondary institution to focus on curriculum, project-based learning experiences and support for college access. These partnerships bring support and resources to APS students to help them navigate choices in both college & career.

College & Career Academies recently announced that The University of Akron is now a sister university to Akron Early College, Ellet High School, and NIHF Stem High School; and Stark State College is a sister college to Kenmore- Garfield High School.

Summa Health Partners with Buchtel CLC
Superintendent David James and Buchtel CLC Principal Nicole Hughes joined President and CEO Dr. Cliff Deveny of Summa Health to announce that Summa Health will become a named integrated partner at Buchtel CLC.  Summa Health will offer instructional support and real-world learning opportunities in areas of healthcare, leadership, and computer programming. 

Academy Spotlight
North High School Hosts Fall Experiential Learning Day
On October 15, students at North High School participated in a school-wide experiential learning day. Learning experiences were based on the academic theme of the various pathways. Academy and pathway business partners at North hosted the students and introduced them to potential career options in the field.

Special thanks to Akron Children’s Hospital, AT&T, Austin Simulation Center, AxessPointe, DriveIT, Keystone Technologies, Main St. Gourmet, OEConnection, Summa Health, The University of Akron and the YMCA for volunteering to host the students.
