S upporting Students with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities in College & Career

This presentation will provide parents an overview of the challenges that students with ASD face when transitioning from high school to college. Adjustment to the demands of college life can be difficult for all students. But for students with neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, these challenges can be extreme and debilitating and can lead to college failure. 

Presenters will focus on student success in college, emphasizing employment as well as academic skills. Learn about supports available for students pursuing a college degree, a college certificate program and/or career skills training .

Expert Speaker Panel:
David Morrison, Ed.D, Educational Psychologist/Executive Director/Founder of College Connect
Dr. Morrison is a licensed Educational Psychologist who has over 30 years of experience working with children and young adults with developmental disabilities. He is Chair and Professor for the Department of Counseling /School Psychology at Azusa Pacific University. He has a doctorate in Educational Psychology with a post doctorate specialization in Clinical Neuropsychology. In addition to his faculty duties at APU, he is the Executive Director of College Connect.
Jeanette Cabrera, PsyD, Staff Psychologist of College Connect
Dr. Jeanette Cabrera received her PsyD at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Applied Clinical Psychology. She received internship and post-doctoral training at Mount St Mary’s University Counseling Center. She serves as the staff psychologist for College Connect.
Dr. Cabrera is bilingual with extensive experience in applied behavior analysis in the area of developmental disabilities
Kelly Privitt, AbilityFirst Senior Director of Quality and Data Management Director of College to Career Program
Ms. Privitt is the Senior Director of Quality and Data Management and Director of the College to Career Program. Since she joined the agency in 1994, Kelly has performed a variety of leadership roles. Kelly graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Behavioral Science. Kelly has a Certificate in Non-Profit Management, and extensive training in person-centered thinking and planning and program planning and evaluation.
Araceli Rubalcaba-Conejo, AbilityFirst Educational Navigator of College to Career Program
Ms. Rubalcaba-Conejo supports students with developing person-centered plans which provide a road map to the services each student will need to meet their life goals. Araceli has a degree in Recreation Therapy from Chico State and a certificate in Social Emotional Arts & Healing Facilitation from UCLA. She has also previously worked as a job coach in the Sacramento area. Araceli has a strong background in project management as a previous Program Advisor for the National College Study Abroad Program, USAC Headquarters at University of Nevada.
