Greetings!

College Club Swimming and Georgia Tech have made the decision to transition to a virtual meet for the 2021 CCS National Championships. This decision did not come lightly, but, given the limitations due to COVID-19, we were not going to be able to put together an event that satisfies both the host and attendee's needs.

Nevertheless, the CCS Advisory Board has been working to create opportunities for as many swimmers as possible to participate in this event. In this email, you will find guidelines for four methods of participating in the 2021 CCS Virtual National Championships:

  • Hosting a satellite event: a satellite event is classified as an event in which two or more clubs participate. Clubs who wanting to host are required to submit a letter to CCS that their facility has given them permission to host.
  • Attending a satellite event: registered CCS teams and members may attend satellite locations to compete in in-person competitions. However, they must have a letter from their recreational sports department allowing them to travel.
  • Hosting an intrasquad meet: an intrasquad meet is classified as an event where only the host team is present.
  • Swimming on your own: swimmers may choose to compete in their events at their own locations during the dates of competition and record their results.

Even though Nationals will be virtual, CCS is still interested in how your club is going to operate during the spring semester. Please take our 2020-21 College Club Swimming Policies Survey - Spring Semester to let us know what's going on with your club!

What are the next steps?

  1. Review the Virtual Meet Packet thoroughly!
  2. Decide how your team wants to participate in the event: hosting a satellite event, hosting an intrasquad meet, traveling to a satellite event, or not hosting or traveling but everyone swimming on their own.
  3. If you can host either a satellite or intrasquad, fill out the corresponding Google form declaring your interest.
  4. If you can't host, view your school travel policy to see if you can travel and wait for the list of satellite locations to be available on February 24 or have your team swim on their own
  5. Whatever your situation, discuss and encourage participation in this meet with your team!

Swimmers must declare their events on the CCS website in their swimmer login regardless of the method of attendance. This process is the same as previous in-person nationals. Registration will open March 1, 2021 and will close April 1, 2021 at 11:59pm Eastern time.

Please read through the Virtual National Championship Meet Packet completely as this document contains all the deadlines and meet information necessary. Any updates to this document will be noted on the second page when finalized.

CCS continues to encourage clubs and members to follow your state, federal, CDC, and university guidelines when participating in club activities. If your institution is shutting down facilities or limiting access, it is imperative that you adhere to those restrictions while assessing your options for club operations.

More guidelines and recommendations can be found on the resource page, including policies published by USA Swimming and U.S. Masters Swimming. CCS will be encouraging all clubs to follow the guidelines set forth by those institutions. If you have any questions related to club operations during this difficult time, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Advisory Board representatives.
