Hello
CDN Update

CDN was delighted to support the first Cyber Scotland Week recently, hosting an inaugural national cyber conference for the college sector. The full day event featured a range of informative and practical sessions to assist colleagues in navigating through cyber resilience and creating pathways for careers in cyber security.

With great progress towards this June’s College Expo19 , I’m pleased to announce a new ‘Skills in Action’ area has been added to the programme. This will be packed with demonstrations led by our talented students. You can find more about that below.

In addition to College Expo, we have a great range of key events and training over the coming weeks, from our new Preparing for Executive Leadership Programme (PEL) and Governance and Leadership Summit , to a series of TeachMeets, the first joint Finance and HR Conference and much more.

I very much hope to meet you at one or more of our events, training courses or the Expo. Please, as ever, don’t hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss any aspect of our work: [email protected]

New ‘Skills in Action’ area announced
We are excited to announce a new feature for College Expo19 – the Skills in Action area , where college students will demonstrate their skills in Hospitality, Health and Care and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). Visitors (including senior phase school pupils) will have the chance to: ‘have a go’ at some of these skills themselves; talk to students; meet members of the WorldSkillsUK team; and talk to careers advisors who will be on hand to offer information and advice. Schools are invited to contact [email protected] to find out more about involving pupils.
Colleges well placed on cyber resilience
We were delighted to welcome Kate Forbes MSP, Minister for Public Finance and Digital Economy to the College Cyber Security Conference, as part of Cyber Scotland Week 2019, last week. Ms Forbes told the audience that ‘what we do is only as strong as its cyber resilience’ and she pointed out that the revised Professional Standards for Lecturers in Scotland’s Colleges makes explicit reference to cyber resilience. She went on to say that the college sector is well placed to exemplify best practice and to embed cyber resilience skills in all areas of learning.
College Innovation Hub launched
The College Innovation Hub is an online place to share stories of the inspiring ways colleges innovate. You will find inspirational case studies as well as a series of podcasts, starting with an interview with Suzanne Hermiston (Scott), Head of Discovery and Learning at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.
Reach Magazine: Reader Survey
This year we produced an extended edition of Reach, the magazine for Scotland’s college sector , and we are keen to hear what you think of it. The survey is anonymous and will take less than 10 minutes to complete. We’d love to hear your thoughts.

It includes information to help lecturers deliver engaging lessons and impactful learning, teaching and assessment. The online content will also be of interest to experienced lecturers who want to find out more about latest thinking on effective learning and teaching.
