CDN Update
In the past month since our last Update, we have run six Professional Standards workshops in colleges across the country, plus a virtual workshop from Perth College UHI.
Many thanks to all the colleges and staff who contributed to these tremendous sessions, outputs from them will inform development needs around the Standards.

I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Annette Bruton, former Principal of Edinburgh College and CDN Fellow, for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent Tes FE Awards; Joanna Campbell on her appointment as Principal and Chief Executive of Dumfries and Galloway College; and David Watt for his appointment as Chair of Fife College Board.

Minister to open Expo
We are delighted to welcome Richard Lochhead MSP, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science to open
College Expo19.
The two-day event takes place 12-13 June at Perth College UHI and is an essential hub for college staff and vocational learning practitioners.

School-college partnerships: two-day conference
Taking place on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 May, Reflecting Back, Moving Forward is for anyone interested in strengthening effective school-college partnerships – including employers, local authorities, school and college staff as well as DYW leads. College Cyber Security Conference
This exciting conference takes place on 23 April, during the first Cyber Scotland Week. The event features hands-on workshops, including a session with ethical hackers from the University of Abertay and The Big Data Show, which combines digital gaming with live theatre to tell the story of the first prosecution of hackers in the UK. The show demystifies online privacy, data security, and staying safe in a virtual world.

No Cost, Low Cost Technology to Support ASN Learners
On Wednesday 17 April CALL Scotland (the Scottish Centre of Excellence in Assistive and Communication Technologies for learners with additional support needs) will lead a workshop to demonstrate free and built-in technologies which are available in Windows, Microsoft Word and iPads to support learners with literacy difficulties. CALL Scotland is responsible for projects including the SQA Adapted Digital Exams.

Governance and leadership summit
This event takes place 2 May and will explore ‘Thinking through Change’. It is a platform for college leadership, to debate and discuss some of the key questions facing the college sector as it faces a period of significant change. The summit allows for us to stop and think about what we are doing, how we are doing it, and why. We are delighted that Richard Lochhead MSP, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science will provide a Ministerial address.

Teaching in Colleges Today
The newly updated Teaching in Colleges Today (TiCT) free online course is a great CPD resource for college lecturers, especially for staff who are new in post. It includes information to help lecturers deliver engaging lessons and impactful learning, teaching and assessment. The online content will also be of interest to experienced lecturers who want to find out more about latest thinking on effective learning and teaching.
