Heritage Elementary Receives Generous Donation for All Students

Heritage Elementary Computer Science Academy was filled with excitement and smiles this week as all 439 students received a brand-new pair of Nike shoes, courtesy of Shoes That Fit in partnership with Nordstrom. The event wasn’t just about new shoes — it was a full-on celebration with a live DJ, fun photo stations, shoe bags and shoe charms.

Heritage was selected based on need and community impact, and as a proud Community School, this day was a powerful example of what it means to support the whole child. Thank you to Shoes that Fit and Nordstrom for helping our students step into the school year with style, confidence, and comfort!

Garden Grove Adult Education (GGAE) Hosts Stakeholder Meeting

GGUSD hosted an important stakeholder meeting earlier today to bring together the voices of educators, community members, students, and local organizations to discuss future plans for adult education programs! This event represents a crucial opportunity for collaboration, insight sharing, and ensuring that programs continue to meet the evolving needs of the community.

The presence and input from participants will help enhance learning opportunities and create additional opportunities for success! Board Trustee Teri Rocco also attended to show her support for our adult education programs.

GGUSD Hosts 2025 College Fair on Monday

GGUSD is excited to host our Annual College Fair on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Orange County (Grand Ballroom – North Tower) in Garden Grove!

This free event is the perfect opportunity for 11th and 12th grade students and their families to:

• Explore college options and find the best fit
• Meet with representatives from CSU, UC, private, and out-of-state universities
• Learn about the college admissions process and how to prepare for future goals

GGUSD counselors will be on-site to answer questions, and interpretation will be available in Spanish & Vietnamese.

Los Amigos to Receive Future Campus Rebuild

Over the next 5-8 years, Los Amigos High School will undergo a complete campus rebuild, bringing state-of-the-art facilities and modern learning environments to the Los Amigos students and community. The project comes in response to recommendations from structural engineers following a statewide review of school facilities. While Los Amigos High School was previously modernized and is a safe school, the engineer recommended soil mitigation and campus building replacements to meet anticipated future seismic safety standards. This project will include brand-new classroom buildings, a library/media center, cafeteria, performing arts center, gym/locker/pool facilities, a new administration building, and expanded parking — all designed to provide safe, innovative spaces for learning.

This is a multi-year project with initial preparation expected to begin in the summer of 2027 and final completion expected around 2032-2033. During the rebuild, there will be minimal disruption to the campus as existing fields will undergo soil preparation first and then new buildings will be constructed on those existing fields while classrooms remain in use. Once new buildings are ready, old facilities will be removed and new fields will be redeveloped. This project will mirror the successful rebuilds at Pacifica and La Quinta high schools. The district will keep the community informed as updates are available.  

Rosita Elementary Recognized for Student Success and Achievements

GGUSD Superintendent Dr. Mafi, who once served as principal of Rosita Elementary, visited today to celebrate student success and achievements during the school's Friday Flag Assembly! Students and staff gave Dr. Mafi a warm welcome and had a wonderful time as she recognized their hard work and the pride of the Rosita community.

Cook Elementary Celebrates Success with Fun-Filled Bubble Run

Cook Elementary recently hosted an incredible Bubble Run fundraiser, where the school community came together to raise an amazing $15,000! Students had an unforgettable time running through clouds of bubbles, laughing with friends, and enjoying a day filled with fun and school spirit. Thanks to the generosity and support of PTA, families, staff, and community partners, these funds will go directly toward enhancing programs and opportunities for Cook scholars.

Pacifica High School Transforms the Stage with Shrek the Musical

Last week, Pacifica High School wowed audiences with their fantastic performance of Shrek the Musical! Students lit up the stage with incredible talent, creativity, and hard work, bringing the beloved story to life for families and the community to enjoy.

Every Day Counts: Brookhurst Elementary Highlights Attendance Awareness Month

Brookhurst Elementary recently celebrated Attendance Awareness Month with fun spirit days and important reminders that showing up every day is the first step toward success. Students and staff dressed up for themes like Good Attendance Leads to Bright Futures and Show Up Strong, with Pajama Day being a crowd favorite! The celebration reinforced teamwork, school pride, and the importance of building strong attendance habits that set the foundation for lifelong success.

Fitz Intermediate Launches Noche de Tertulia Tradition with a Night of Inspiration

Fitz Intermediate Language Academy celebrated its first Noche de Tertulia of the school year, hosted by AVID and Latinos Unidos with the theme “Education Opens Doors.” The evening welcomed back alumni who inspired students and families by sharing their career journeys in fields like medicine, law, business, and gaming. Guests also learned about opportunities like the Early College Academy at Los Amigos High School, while current AVID students shared their own future goals. It was a night of community, inspiration, and endless possibilities!
