Meet the Instructor ...

Angelica Petersen

As a high school student focused on biotechnology, I had no idea that I could have a job designing products, websites or creating illustrations. As I began to explore more of the design industry, I realized how much I LOVED graphic design (with interior design as a close second). Then I discovered the animation industry and my gosh, my world got even bigger! I loved story boarding for some time before discovering concept art - preproduction illustrations that bring a director’s vision to life. The imaginative component of this role and the tight knit community it came with has only drawn me deeper since discovering it a year ago. I hope to continue to develop these concept art skills to eventually become a senior concept artist later in life.

Crafty Corner

Angelica Petersen

Ages 5-9

In this hands-on class students will have the opportunity to express themselves in artistic and social ways by creating their own craft-tastic masterpieces that will focus on shape! Students will hand-build creatures with clay, craft pipe cleaner animals, and create dot art using washable paint.

Drawing With Charcoal

Angelica Petersen

Ages 6-12

In this class students will learn the basics of applying and drawing with charcoal along with techniques such as blending, shading, and identifying perspective, value, and shape. Students will complete their own personal project that will combine all techniques covered during this class.

Meet the Instructor ...

Julia Mae Thompson

I am a student at Laguna College of Art and Design working on a BFA in Experimental Animation with a Creative Writing Minor! My passion for storytelling has given me a love for storyboarding and script writing. In the past few years, I have written and produced two student short films "Made With Love" and "Teatime," and the stage play "By the Book" which was performed for live audiences. I am currently working as a background artist on the student film "Shattered" and as a concept artist for the story-based video game "Office Quest." I am also in the beginning phases of production for my own short film that will be made over the next year and a half.

Outside of school, I work as a Social Media Designer for Succulent Coffee Roasters, a Graphic Designer and Children's Book Colorist for Faux Paw Petique, and as Student Government Representative for the Experimental Animation major. I look forward to meeting you this summer!
