The Stark Education Partnership became a part of the AmeriCorps College Guides program eleven years ago. AmeriCorps connects over 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet community needs in education, the environment, public safety, health, and homeland security. The AmeriCorps Ohio College Guides program places recent college graduates into schools as near-peers to help students prepare for a successful future beyond high school.  The Stark Education Partnership is the host site for three college guides. These guides began their service on August 1st under the supervision of Jay Moody, Innovative Projects Strategist. "Our guides have been forming a close bond, and we are thrilled with the services they provide," said Moody. The Guides work with school counselors and teachers to support students in matching their skills and interests to successful and satisfying career pathways. They help students identify an area of interest; explore educational options; support the application and financial aid processes, and complete the commitment process. Below are this year's team of guides:  

Jaecey Hudson Massillon Washington High School Jaecey is a Washington High School graduate. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Child Psychology from Kent State University and is currently enrolled in a graduate program for Counseling & Human Development at Walsh University. Jaecey spent time in Mexico in a study abroad program learning about Deaf Education at the School for Special Education in San Miguel de Allende where she interacted with students through the use of Mexican Sign Language. Jaecey is happy she'll spend this year giving back to her fellow Massillon Tigers.

Kiara Rolland Canton McKinley High School Kiara is a McKinley graduate and attended Baldwin Wallace University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History, Legal Studies in May 2020. Kiara was a peer tutor while at Baldwin Wallace and was the student director of the College Explorations Team in the BW Brain Center for Community Engagement. In that role, she engaged with eighth-grade students about the importance of college and led campus tours. Kiara is excited to be back in her alma mater in service to her community.

Nia Shuler Alliance High School Nia graduated from GlenOak High School before attending Waynesburg University where she served as a student ambassador. She graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a minor in Sociology. She was in the Bonner Scholars Program and completed over 1,500 service hours. Nia participated in two study abroad programs in Uganda and in Cape Town, South Africa. Nia has a passion for service and is looking forward to engaging with students this year at Alliance High School.
