College Hill Reservoir Replacement Project

August 18, 2025

Dear Neighbor:

Preparations for tunneling are almost complete and the tunnel-boring machine could launch as soon as Thursday of this week. Read on for details related to this phase of work.

Separation system will bring new noise to site

The large red piece of equipment set up on the edge of Lincoln Street will be used to extract rocks and water from the tunneling process. It works by tumbling excavated material (rocks, mud, debris) inside a shaft. The tumbling will create a consistent loud banging sound when the system is in operation.

Our current schedule shows the separation system will be in operation for about 30 working days, when the tunneling machine is in use (typically weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The duration might change depending on tunneling conditions.

Foundation of south tank nearing completion

Contractors completed the third concrete pour for the foundation of the south tank on Friday. The fourth and final pour for the south tank foundation is scheduled for this week.

Aerial of the site as of August 15, 2025.

Timelapse

The timelapse camera is live although it only shows progress from early March of this year to the present. We will send another notice when footage from the entire project is uploaded and available for viewing.
