Meet the new Occupational Therapy Assistant Interns!
|
|
MICC is excited to once again partner with St. Catherine Univerisity Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program. MICC will host two OTA students for eight weeks (through the end of the semester). These students are completing their final academic preparations prior to taking their certification exam.
Occupational therapy services enhance how individuals and groups participate in daily activities. At MICC, OTA students will work with MICC students to promote functioning as individuals and within groups during daily activities. OTA students may identify supports for increased independence and participation, social-emotional, cognitive, and motor performance of MICC students.

Hello, my name is Flannery and I am one of two occupational therapy assistant interns from St. Catherine University that will be working here. I am from Minneapolis, and I really enjoy Minnesota winters! In my free time, I like to watch hockey, knit, and hang out with my dog. I am looking forward to working and learning here at MICC for the coming weeks.

My name is Logan, and I am one of two OTA interns that will be working with you. I grew up and live in Rosemount, Minnesota, and am currently attending St. Catherines University. My hidden talent is that I know how to juggle. I am excited to work and learn from you over the next few weeks!

MICC's Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee sponsored a fantastic guest speaker this past week, Dana Thompson, who spoke about the LGBTIQA+ community with a focus on the transgender community. Dana's talk, "Finally Dana. A Story of Transition and Supporting the Transgender Community", involved Dana sharing her own journey of transitioning and providing research on transgender people and the risk factors that often haunt them. Dana's talk also included protective factors that should be available for the transgender community along with ways to best support them for allies. This talk was presented to all MICC staff and open to any participant who wanted to attend.

Dana Thompson has her Masters of Science in Education, Education Specialist in School Psychology, is a licensed special education director, a nationally certified school psychologist, and is now finishing her doctor of education (ABD) with her dissertation focusing on workplace protections, parent, colleague, and student reactions, and avenues for advocacy. Dana is currently the Supervisor of Student Support Services and Special Education at Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191.

Ride-Sharing Opportunity
With holiday breaks right around the corner, we encourage families to consider ride-sharing as a way for our young people to get to know each other, and for families' convenience. The Family Directory is a great resource for this - find it on the private Facebook group.
