COLLEGE PLANNING MEETING FOR JUNIOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS
In order to assist and support students and families through the college planning process, Mercy Counselors will provide services to all Juniors and their parents in an individual College Planning Meeting. This meeting will take place in-person at Mercy High School during the school day. This is an opportunity for you and your daughter to meet with her Counselor to focus on the following:
- Review of transcript to discuss high school grade trends
- Discussion about: college admission tests (ACT/SAT) and test preparation, building a college list, and identifying colleges the student has an interest in
- Sharing resources that can assist parents and students in the planning process
- Discuss student and Counselor roles and responsibilities during the college planning and admissions process
To best prepare for their College Planning Meeting, students and parents have important responsibilities:
-
Parents were invited to attend the College Kick-Off Presentation on November 5th virtually via Zoom. A recording of the presentation will soon be shared with families.
-
Students will need to complete the College Interest Questionnaire found in the Assignment section of SCOIR, at least two days prior to the meeting. The information gathered will enable us to provide guidance and direction specific to your student’s interests and needs in regards to college planning. Meetings will be rescheduled if this is not complete.
-
Parents are encouraged to complete a “Parent College Search Questionnaire & Brag Sheet” which allows you to tell us about your student to help assist us when writing a letter of recommendation and building a college list. This form can be accessed in your SCOIR parent account: once logged in, you can access the ‘Assignment’ right from your dashboard. If you do not already have an account, an invitation to SCOIR to set-up an account was sent via email on Thursday, November 6 (if you don't see it in your inbox, please check your Spam folder). If you have a SCOIR account, but do not remember your login info, please follow the prompts on the site to reset your password, using the email address we have on file in PowerSchool.
The College Planning Meetings will be offered mid-November and run through February 2026. Appointments available at this time are only for the current semester and can be scheduled using the info below. The schedule of appointments offered in January and February will be sent to families when we return from Christmas break. Registration will close 2 days prior to each available meeting date. When scheduling your meeting, please be sure to choose a time that works with your schedule and your daughter’s schedule. Ideally, it is best to schedule the meeting when she is unscheduled from class. However, we understand that the coordination of multiple schedules can be challenging and finding a time that works for all parties may necessitate the need for a student to miss a class.
