Summer 2026 SLI Dates
June 6 - July 24
Summer 2026 Application Deadlines
Early Application Deadline: March 13, 2026
Final Application Deadline: April 15, 2026
SLI is currently accepting applications for Summer 2026. Below are a few frequently asked questions to help you determine which students may be a good fit:
What is the Summer Language Institute (SLI)?
SLI is a summer program at UNG where students can complete a full year of a critical language (1001 & 1002) in seven weeks. That's right — eight credit hours in seven weeks. Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian are offered through SLI.
Which high school students are eligible?
High school students who are rising juniors or seniors and are at least 16 years old by the start of the program are eligible to apply.
Do students earn college credit?
Yes! Students earn official University of North Georgia college credit upon successful completion of the program. For Georgia high school students, dual enrollment covers tuition, mandatory fees and textbooks, making this an accessible option for motivated students.
Who is a good candidate for SLI?
SLI is designed for students with zero to very little prior language experience and is ideal for those who are college-bound, academically motivated, and interested in exploring a new language or future major while completing college coursework.
What is the student experience like?
Students participate in intensive language instruction paired with cultural immersion, including tutoring sessions, cultural activities, excursions and hands-on experiences, all on UNG’s Dahlonega campus.
Why should students consider SLI?
SLI helps students discover an interest in language and global studies while earning college credit that can apply toward future degree requirements. The program also introduces students to pathways such as study abroad, advanced language programs and nationally competitive scholarships once they matriculate to college.
