COLLEGE NEWS
Welcome and welcome back! We have such a promising year ahead, and I encourage each of you to be involved in some way – through student chapters of professional organizations, through the student advisory board, as an ambassador or mentor – each time you step out to be a part of something bigger than yourself, you grow and everyone benefits. Join me for the Dean’s Welcome and Ice Cream Social in the Link on Wednesday, and you will learn what we have to celebrate and more about the exciting year ahead.

ARCHITECTURE
Welcome back returning students and welcome new students! I hope you are as excited as I am to start a new academic year.
Over the summer, we had several UCARE students working with faculty members on design-research projects and creative activities. UCARE is a wonderful opportunity for our undergraduate students to work one-on-one with a faculty advisor while being paid. Professor Craig Babe and I were lucky to work with two amazing undergraduate students, Logan Altricher and Paige Haskett, on our co-authored book project on design-studio teaching pedagogy in architecture. We analyzed two major architectural precedents through drawing: Le Corbusier’s La Tourette and OMA’s Milstein Hall. More-
INTERIOR DESIGN
Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year! I hope that each of you had a fulfilling summer break and are looking forward to a semester of growth and achievement. We are welcoming a class of 32 first-year, pre-interior design students, 26 second-year students, 18 third-year students and 26 fourth-year students. In addition, we are welcoming a new faculty member, Kendra Locklear Ordia.

Ordia comes to us with successful practice and teaching experience and will have immediate positive impact on our program. She is a registered interior designer in the state of Texas and NCIDQ certified. Ordia’s professional experience includes working at Perkins + Will, Gensler and CallisonRTKL. Ordia’s academic experiences have included teaching positions at Kansas State and Texas State, and she earned her Master’s in Interior Design at University of Texas-Austin. More -
COMMUNITY AND REGIONAL PLANNING
The faculty in Community and Regional Planning welcomes all new and returning students to the campus and wishes everyone a successful and rewarding 2019-2020 academic year!

The Community and Regional Planning program offers undergraduate and graduate courses that are open to all majors, and the Master of Community and Regional Planning degree is open to students who have undergraduate degrees in virtually all fields. Think about supplementing your undergraduate degree with CRP courses, an undergraduate minor in CRP, as well as the MCRP degree! - Gordon Scholz
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
The summer is ending, and it is time for everyone to migrate their way back to Architecture Hall for the start of a new academic year. Some things will be comfortably familiar, the stacks, the Link, the vending machines. Continuity is a good thing because it is something we build on. Nothing, however is ever really the same. For instance your favorite variety of Mountain Dew is now a dollar seventy five! Change is inevitable and somethings we have to deal with. With change comes new opportunities. For instance we will be welcoming new faculty in the Landscape Architecture Program. Yujia Wang will be joining our faculty as a professor of practice. He received his B Eng. in Landscape Architecture from Chongqing University, studied for one year at Cardiff University and graduated from Harvard University where he earned his MLA, graduating with distinction.  More-
