The AIA Nebraska has announced several scholarship opportunities for architecture students in the second, third and fourth years of the undergraduate program AND the Master of Architecture program. The winners will be announced at the College of Architecture Scholarships and Awards ceremony on April 20 th

I had the great opportunity to sit in on 4th and 2nd year studio reviews the past week. The work that was put in to your presentations were a positive representation of the dedication you have put into honing your craft and advancing skills.
What I found myself reflecting on afterwards are the many concepts that are introduced in DSGN101. Perhaps because as you all advance through the curriculum, I continue to deliver the messages related to the discipline of design as each new class starts their first year…and you all move on.  More-
With the arrival of a few days of spring-like weather in late February, Dr. Zhenghong Tang’s research team from UNL and his research partners from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service were outdoors for drone flying on February 27, 2018.

Dr. Tang’s project aims to develop a methodology for the use of a small unmanned aircraft system (UAS) to conduct dynamic monitoring and precise assessment of playa wetlands habitat conditions in the Rainwater Basin in south-central Nebraska. More-
The Landscape Architecture (re)accreditation visit in on the near horizon. Next week the faculty will begin the process of putting up an exhibition of work done in the program. Which means the gallery space will be off line for general use for the next couple weeks. These visits require a tremendous amount of effort to collect and assemble the work, organize and curate the material and then mount the work for display. Beyond this effort, there is the generation of a program report and digital portfolio. Professor Rumiko Handa publishes a book chapter entitled “W. G. Sebald’s Austerlitz: Architecture as a Bridge between the Lost Past and the Present” in Routledges’ “Reading Architecture” edited by  Angeliki Sioli and   Yoonchun Jung .

Handa’s chapter examines the often neglected but nonetheless important asset of architecture, which brings the past to the present even without having deliberate designation, requiring specialized knowledge, or carrying physical trace.

The Society of American Registered Architects has many opportunities available for college students including numerous programs, awards and scholarship. Our National Design Awards Program 2018 is open to all undergraduate and graduate students worldwide.

The Sherwin-Williams student design challenge celebrates excellence in interior design by students in both residential and commercial categories. This year’s challenge- create a color rendering(s) of an interior space: residential or commercial. Top cash prize is $2500.

MG2 is hosting its second annual Recognizing Exceptional Design (R.E.D.) Student Portfolio Competition.

The students (undergraduate and graduate) awarded best overall portfolios will each receive a three-month paid summer internship at any U.S. MG2 office, plus a $500 housing stipend each month.

The APA has a scholarship called the Tom Cory Scholarship for students pursuing a career in Architecture. Tom Cory was a founding member of the APA and in his honor the APA developed this scholarship.

The theme of the contest is a Cultural Center in Senegal (Africa), which aims to protect traditional cultures and solve humanitarian emergencies with the architecture. The initiative has two objectives: the development of research in architecture on issues of social emergencies, and contributing to a humanitarian emergency in Senegal. The winning team will win an internship at the Kengo Kuma Office in Tokyo and cash prizes.
