This was a first for me, that we held final reviews during a major demolition at Architecture Hall. At times, we could even feel the earth shake beneath our feet, but you all persevered and did an amazing job. I really couldn’t be prouder of everyone from faculty, to the reviewers, to our students. Thank you for the flexibility and patience you’ve exhibited thus far. Noticeable progress is being made in the removal of the former stacks section of Architecture Hall West.
Now that your final reviews are finished and final exams are almost complete, you can start thinking about a nice relaxing break where you can recharge and renew your batteries as the expression goes and return refreshed for the new semester. Here’s wishing for you a wonderful new year and hoping for great expectations of the opportunities it will bring!
Happy Holidays!

Studio Cleanup
All students are required to either store or take ALL personal materials home over the winter break.
1) No items may be left or stored in studio over the break.
2) Your studio should be completely cleaned before leaving for break, by SUNDAY, DECEMBER 18 at the latest.
3) Please be sure to carry large items that you do not want to the trash!
4) Students do have the option to purchase a storage box from the Media Center if you wish to store materials here over the break. The box will cost $3.50 and is a cardboard moving box from Home Depot. The size is 24” L x 20” W x 21” D with handles. The box is yours once purchased. After your box is packed, labeled and taped, the box will be stored in the Arch Hall Gallery over the winter break. If you need it, packing tape is available in the Media Center and the Dean’s Office. Boxes can be brought to the Gallery for storage beginning Monday afternoon, December 12.
If you have questions about this, please do feel free to reach out to Stephanie.
Please note: Thesis students may keep their materials in studio over the break, all items must be removed from the floor and stacked neatly on their desks to allow the custodians to clean the space.

This time of year, is one of celebration and reflection as we bring the fall semester to a close and anticipate the next one coming in the new year. This has been a landmark semester with our students representing the program at the National ASLA Conference. We are once again grateful for the financial support the professional ASLA organization provided to help with the cost of attendance. We plan to make participation in this event an annual event in the future. The studios along with the other coursework are coming to a successful conclusion with lots of good outcomes shared in the final reviews. Of note was the work generated in Sarah Karle and Michael Harpster’s 410 Collaborate studio, in partnership with Nebraska Game and Parks and Yujia Wang’s Benson ideas studio reviewed by international critics. Connections to communities and the profession are also aspects we will continue to pursue on into the future. Congratulations to everyone for all the good work.
Looking to the future, next semester will start with great enthusiasm with a lecture by Martha Schwartz on Tuesday evening January 24. This will be the first time the college has partnered the Hyde lecture series with the E.N. Thompson Forum. We are excited the event will bring the landscape architecture community together to share the creative potential the profession can contribute to solving the big problems of our time. The lecture is free, but tickets are required. This event happens in the first week of the spring semester so make sure you get your ticket first thing once you return or get one now since they are available now.
Best wishes to all of you for the coming holiday season.

| COMMUNITY AND REGIONAL PLANNING | |
We are coming to the last week of the fall semester of 2022. I write this message to appreciate all of you, including the CRP students, faculty and staff, for hard work during this fall semester. The instructors Yunwoo Nam, Abigail Cochran, Stephanie Rouse, Derek Miller, Frank Ordia, Andrew Thierolf, Belinda Fowler, and Jeffrey Henson made excellent work to enrich student learning in each course. The faculty members still conduct active creative research activities and community services in transportation planning, healthy planning, environmental planning, historical preservation, hazard mitigation and community development. Abigail Cochran is currently leading two research projects to help communities in food security and economic growth. Yunwoo Nam just started the new project with Nebraska Department of Transportation during this semester. More importantly, the students worked hard to overcome all types of challenges to achieve the learning goals in this semester. Stephanie Kuenning and Leslie Gonzalez are always so efficient and helpful to answer student questions from the recruitment, retention, to student success. Cameron Andreesen and Kerry McCullough-Vondrak actively connect to our alumni, partners, and stakeholders to support the CRP program development. Thanks for all of your hard and excellent work during this semester!
I hope everyone has a healthy, safe and relaxing winter break! Look forward to seeing you in spring semester.

Congratulations on completing your studio reviews last week! This is a significant accomplishment, and I hope you’ll all take the time to reflect on your excellent work.
The Architecture Program had a great fall semester, and we shared stories about our student summer internships, DSGN410 design studios, M.Arch London study abroad students, new Professor of Practice faculty Michael Harpster and Matt Miller, professional elective courses taught by Zeb Lund and Tom Trenolone, and AIA-NE and AIA-Central States honors/awards. Next semester, the program looks forward to sharing more stories to grow awareness and support.
I also want to recognize the second year, transfer, and first-semester M.Arch students for completing their first semester in the Architecture Program. This semester will set a strong foundation for future semesters and life-long friendships.
Congratulations to everyone on a great semester, and I hope you have a safe extended holiday break.

Thanks to the faculty for crafting and leading high-quality learning in our classrooms and studios! Thank you to the Jaime Mastera, Leslie Gonzalez and Stephanie Kuenning for supporting our students, and to Matt Bukrey, Kerry Vondrak, Kathlene Bateman, Robyn Goodwin, and Jeff Jackson for continuing to support all of us and steer the ship for day-to-day efficiency, effectiveness and communication!
The Interior Design Program wishes everyone a restful, joyous and fulfilling semester break and holiday season! We look forward to welcoming everyone back in January for a fun semester of acquiring new knowledge and testing creative ideas - all in the pursuit of becoming better, more equipped, purposeful and inspiring interior designers.
