COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
Introducing Dr. Sonia Dalmia
Welcome the New Dean of the College of Business, Dr. Sonia Dalmia

Hello Everyone! As the newly appointed Dean of Governors State University's College of Business, I'm absolutely ecstatic! This university has accomplished incredible things, and I aim to take us even higher. Throughout my 24-year journey in higher education, I have come to appreciate great teaching methods and adaptability as essential attributes in meeting changing global demands.

Thank you to all our faculty and staff - you're the stars behind our success! I can't wait to join forces in elevating our college.

Students, you are the heart of what we do! My mission? Supporting and nurturing your dreams while equipping you for the business world. Let's chat - I am eager to hear what you have to say.

Alums, we are so very proud of you. Let's connect, expand our network, and provide support on both ends.

Dear Business Partners and Community: I look forward to learning from you and exploring ways we can drive change together and make a real, impactful difference in the lives around us.

Looking forward, I envision our college as a hub of new ideas, diverse voices, and significant impacts. As we shape its future together, I would love to hear from you as we embark on this exciting journey together! Visit or send a note; let's embark on it together!

Growing up in a military family in India meant frequent moves and schools; this inspired my love of travel and teamwork. Today I'm married to AI expert Arun, and together, we have two kids: one at USC studying marketing, while the other studies Data Science at the University of Michigan.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am looking forward to experiencing all that fall energy on campus. Go Jaguars!

Sincerely,

Sonia Dalmia, Ph.D.
Dean, College of Business
College of Business Brigade goes to Panama
The Global Business Brigades represents an international initiative that GSU and The College of Business scholars and professionals led to open economic pathways for socioeconomically marginalized populations in developing nations. This brigade collaborates primarily with entrepreneurial entities in geographically isolated and resource-limited regions like Honduras, Panama, Ghana, and Nicaragua to establish business operations that are both financially sustainable and capable of providing economic prospects for those who are marginalized.

This year, ten scholars embarked on an expeditionary Business Brigade trip to Panama from July 23- 31. Throughout this educational endeavor, students closely examined entrepreneurial strategies employed by business owners in an underserved rural Panamanian community. The insights gained extended beyond the local methodologies, as the participants were also dedicated to enhancing the operational capacities within these communities, thereby contributing to their economic sustainability.

ESG App Development and Project

Recent developments at SCICBI (Supply Chain Innovation Center and Business Incubator) include an interdepartmental collaboration bringing together a graduate from GSU Computer Science Department and a current Management Information Systems student to craft an advanced application that assists enterprises in assessing potential supply chain vulnerabilities, particularly regarding compliance to sustainability mandates. The aim is to engineer such an application to aid companies in meeting sustainability mandates more easily.

SCICBI's goal in embarking on this endeavor is to usher in a digital revolution in supply chain management and corporate social responsibility paradigms. Additionally, Mr. Reggie Greenwood, Director of SCICBI, recently earned certification from the Global Reporting Initiative - joining an exclusive cadre of professionals capable of aligning corporate initiatives with UN Sustainable Development Goals, further emphasizing its international significance.

Well Done!

Faculty making a difference - Fall 2023
Dr. William Kresse Appointed to the ABA Task Force Advisory Commission.
The American Bar Association (ABA) has launched a task force to bolster public trust in elections, headed by former Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson and former federal appellate Judge J. Michael Luttig.

The 31-member ABA Task Force for American Democracy will look at ways to depoliticize how elections are administered, educate the public on democracy, and try to foster elecIINtion innovations that address the causes of politicization, the ABA said on Wednesday when it announced the new effort. The task force comes a week after former President Donald Trump was indicted on criminal charges that he plotted to overturn the 2020 election and as the 2024 presidential race is heating up. Dr. Kresse is also a Commissioner on the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners. "I believe that these recent appointments can be attributed to the academic research I have been conducting in using CPAs to perform post-election audits of election results."
