The department of political science is pleased to congratulate the next round of Legislative scholars for the 2015 session. 
Distinguished Undergraduate Researcher Award

Congratulations to Andrew Lutz for receiving November's Distinguished Undergraduate Researcher Award! He conducted research in the field of Psychology, under the mentorship of Dr. Matthew Chin. His project was called "Instruction from Behind a Black Mirror." 

Mexico Hosts PhD Student's Summer Research
While the ports of Mexico are populated by college students on summer vacation, one UCF student set sail to study mental health among Latinos. 
International Honor Brought to UCF Mathematics Department
The UCF department of mathematics has received one of the highest honors in the math world. Equivalent to winning an Oscar in the film industry,Dr. Jiongmin Yong spoke at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in August.

Florida Campus Compact Honors Political Science Major for Community Service
Political science major Alice Neira recently was chosen as one of three students in the state to receive the Student Excellence in Service Award presented by Florida Campus Compact.

The Distinguished Speaker Series is bringing Dr. Andrei Markovits from the University of Michigan to speak about "Sports, Politics, and Cultural Transformation."

New UCF Center to Educate Future Intelligence Workforce
The University of Central Florida has been awarded a $1.85 million grant to establish a center focused on intelligence and national security within the department of political science. 
COS is Collecting for Toys for Tots!
Sponsored by Staff Council and in collaboration with numerous UCF colleges and departments, toys are being collected for the 2014 holiday. Please donate an unwrapped toy to the drop-off box located in the College of Sciences Dean's Office, room 201. The deadline for all donations is Nov. 21.

COS Knights Give Back for Oyster Restoration 
This year's Knights Give Back on Oct. 11 marked the eighth anniversary of UCF students, alumni, faculty and staff, coming together to make a lasting impact on the Central Florida community through 24 different service sites, including an on-campus project hosted by the UCF College of Sciences. 
Social Anxiety Treated with Technology
Dr. Deborah C. Beidel of the department of psychology, along with her colleagues at Virtually Better, Inc. developed Pegasys-VR. In September, the team was awarded a Phase II Small Business Technology Transfer grant for $2.1 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to further enhance and develop the system. Read more here

Astronaut Scholarship Foundation offers opportunity to student scientists

30 years ago, the Mercury 7 astronauts joined together to encourage students to pursue scientific endeavors. Their idea of keeping America on the leading edge of technology led them to form the Mercury 7 Foundation, which later became the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF).

UCF is one of the first five universities to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the ASF. The agreement outlines that every year, for five years, two scholarships will be committed to students.

Donna Mirus Bates to be Inducted into NSC Alumni Hall of Fame
On Thursday, November 6, NSC and the UCF Alumni Association will host the Alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which will take place at the Citrus Cub at 11am.  This year's chosen inductee is Donna Mirus Bates, the senior vice president of marketing and communications and content development for the Universal Orlando Resort.
