Next month marks the official launch of our college selection resource programming, headed by College Services Coordinator, Val Seid. Programming kicks off with a mandatory info night for players born 2000-2005 and their parents on December 12 to cover
general information about the college selection process, the process of college recruitment, how often to contact coaches, and basic scholarship/financial aid info.
Please plan to also attend our College Coaches Panel event on January 22, 2019 when you will hear from current college head coaches about what they look for and the process they use to recruit and contact players.
Additional information nights will be held on the last Wednesday of each month to cover additional topics including:
- How to use College Fit Finder
- How to prep for a college showcase
- What to know about NCAA, NAIA, and community college rules
PLAYERS OF THE MONTH
Our new monthly recognition program celebrates the teams and individuals who
best exemplify the three pillars of #WeAreSurf by being enthusiastic, intentional, & together.
October Player of the Month - Girls
While Bailey Matthews (G07A)
holds her teammates to a certain
standard, she still offers words of encouragement and praise.
Coach Ryan Campbell notes, "Bailey has really made a solid effort to
implement possession play. E
en when an option is not immediately available, she
uses her skills to create passing opportunities and has composure,
instead of just randomly kicking the ball up the field."
Bailey always comes to training and games with tons of
energy and passion for the game. She never gives anything less than a
100% effort regardless of the score or what we are doing in training.
She is always willing to help guest play with other teams to help out
even if it means traveling for an away game
October Player of the Month - Boys
Abdou Fatty (B06B) always greets coaches and his teammates with a smile and a handshake. If there is a collision and someone falls he'll offer a hand and ask
if they are alright. He speaks positively to his teammates and gives them praise.
Coach Walt Antoniuk says, "Abdou is stepping out of his comfort zone in training and games and using his weaker foot when the ball is on that side. He has adopted a growth mindset and moves on from mistakes with focus on doing better the next play."
October GK of the Month - Girls
Kaitlyn Baldwin-McCurdy (G05A) exemplifies the core values of Greater Seattle Surf. "Every time she comes to training she is focused, hard working and encourages others. She's a dedicated team player who works hard at her craft," says Goalkeeping Academy Director Val Seid.
Coach Mel Craig agrees, "She's one of the top keepers in the State in our league."
October GK of the Month - Boys
This year, Hudson
made the decision to play full time as a goalkeeper and it has brought much consistency and success to the team.
Coach An Nuon says, "Hudson trains with an intensity that resonates with his teammates and carries over into the game. His ability to communicate in his roll brings everyone together and on the same page."
Goalkeeping Academy Director Val Seid agrees, "
Hudson always has a great attitude and is even more enthusiastic with each session."
