Seeing the Forest AND the Trees

parks arborist trees

Colleyville is a beautiful community that places a high value on trees. In fact, the City has been a Tree City USA for more than two decades. Colleyville is also recognized as a gold level Texas Scenic City. We love to see new tree plantings, and we also work with developers, HOAs, and homeowners alike to ensure existing trees are preserved. To accomplish this, the City employs a team of experts.

Colleyville's Parks Supervisor Chris Haworth has been a certified arborist for 11 years. The City's Community Development Department has a Planner and Urban Forester on staff, Kris Potts, who is set to receive his arborist certification this spring. And, all of the newly installed landscaping throughout Colleyville is the vision of our Landscape Beautification Supervisor Joe Flynn and executed by our Parks crews.

If you have any questions about the health of trees, need a permit, or any other questions, they are here to help. Parks can be reached at 817.503.1180, and Community Development can be reached at 817.503.1050.

Leaf Recycling Program Begins November 18

leaf recycling

Special leaf and Christmas tree recycling collections will return this winter. Community Waste Disposal (CWD), Colleyville's trash and recycling provider, will run special collection routes to recycle bagged leaves starting this month. This year's program includes six collection days on Saturday, Nov. 18, Dec. 2, Dec. 9, Dec. 16, Dec. 23, and Jan. 6 with collections beginning at 8am. CWD will also collect and recycle Christmas trees on the January special collection day.

To participate, residents just need to set out leaves on the designated days. CWD will recycle leaves in any type of bag, paper lawn craft bag or plastic bag. If leaf bags are set out prior to the Saturday collections, residents are asked to place leaf bags separately from household trash. With that in mind, residents should be aware of and comply with their Homeowner Association's policies. Regular rear-load trucks will be used for these special collection days. For more information on the program, call 817.503.1111.

Cease the Grease, Free Oil & Grease Disposal for Residents; Nov. 13 - Jan. 12

2023 Cease the Grease

The holidays, with their fried turkeys, buttery foods, and gravy can be hard on your diet and on pipes and sewer systems. When fats, oils, and grease are washed down the drain, they stick to the inside of pipes, hardening and building up until they cause clogs and sewer backups. This can cause sewage overflow into homes, streets, and local waterways. Whether the repairs are in your home or in the street, it can be costly and inconvenient. If the sewer overflows, city crews have to shut down streets, tying up traffic and increasing expenses for both residents and the city.

Instead of washing your grease down the drain, participate in the 2023 Holiday Grease Roundup and recycle it for free! The City of Colleyville is partnering with the North Texas Municipal Water District, the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the Wastewater and the Treatment Education Roundtable, and American BioSource to help protect sewer systems and the environment by providing a drop-off location to collect your holiday grease. The collected cooking oil and grease will be recycled into biodiesel or biogas, which reduces landfill waste and produces an alternative fuel that is clean and green.

Cooking grease and oil will be collected at the Colleyville Public Works Facility located at 1601 Hall-Johnson Road from Monday, November 13 through Friday, January 12. Collection hours are 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will be no collections on weekends or City holidays.

Opportunity for Businesses & Organizations to Participate in Tree Lighting Celebration

2023 Christmas Tree

The 2023 Colleyville Tree Lighting Celebration on December 1 will feature the first-ever Holly Colley Express, a festive beverage station experience. This is a wonderful opportunity for Colleyville businesses and organizations to join in the festivities. Groups are asked to decorate their vehicle as a "train car" and serve hot chocolate, cider, or toppings to families enjoying the Tree Lighting event. The City will provide branded drink cups.

Spots are still available to participate. For details and to sign up, visit Holly Colley Express. If you have any questions, email Hailey Waldon at hwaldon@colleyville.com.
