CCCPD Reauthorization Election Set for May | |
|
Did you know? One of the funding sources for the Colleyville Police Department is the half-cent sales tax known as the Colleyville Crime Control and Prevention District (CCCPD) sales tax. A sales tax for crime control and prevention is a common funding mechanism used by cities throughout Texas. The sales tax revenue provides funding for public safety personnel expenses, operational costs, and related equipment or capital purchases. The sales tax funds collected may only be used for law enforcement purposes.
In 1999, Colleyville voters approved the creation of our Crime Control and Prevention District and the half-cent sales tax. In 2003, voters renewed the CCCPD for an additional 20 year period. In Colleyville, these sales tax dollars are utilized to fund a portion of the Colleyville Police Department's annual budget including 13 Police Officers and 6 School Resource Officers. The funds also pay for police vehicle replacement, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software, weapons replacement, SWAT training and equipment, crisis and de-escalation training, and the Teen Court program.
This May, Colleyville citizens will have the opportunity to decide whether to reauthorize the half-cent sales tax for another 20 year term. Election Day is May 6. The Colleyville Library (2nd floor) is an early voting and Election Day voting site. If you have any questions on the CCCPD or the upcoming election, please visit the City's website at Colleyville.com.
