Councilmembers Chuck Kelley, Place 5, and Callie Rigney, Place 6, took their oaths of office at the May 18 City Council meeting. Kelley and Rigney were re-elected during the most recent general election and will serve until May 2024. The Colleyville Mayor and Councilmembers are elected to three year terms in staggered years.

The Texas Comptroller's Office has posted the most recent sales tax allocation information for May, representing all receipts from purchases made in March of this year. This also marks our halfway point through FY21. The most recent collection came in at a whopping 51.8% over the same month in FY20, raising our YTD growth to a solid 16.8%! In terms of dollars, this represents a total YTD gain of $673,000 over last year. Delving deeper into this exciting collection, it is important to note that March of 2020 sales tax collections were down slightly (1.9%) from the year before. Further, this month's collection included an audit adjustment adding $68,000 to our sales tax receipts. However, even if we net that out and just take current collections, our YTD growth comes up to 40%.

Through March of this year, the City has received a total of $4,687,163 in sales tax. As mentioned before, this is a full $673,000 more than we've received through the same month in FY20. It bears noting that this month marks the 12th consecutive month in which Colleyville has posted sales tax gains over the previous year.

On Tuesday, City Council approved the newest gift card program, with a patriotic theme, supporting local businesses this summer.

Beginning mid-June, each Colleyville household will receive a $35 patriotic gift card for use at local participating businesses. Cards are valid through July 31. Once in hand, the gift card can be presented at participating Colleyville businesses for payment of services. The businesses will use the card to credit the transaction and receive reimbursement from the city. Gift cards will also be mailed to homes in neighboring cities within a one mile radius of Colleyville shopping centers.

Let the fun begin! Readers of all ages are invited to participate in the 2021 summer reading program, "Glow Crazy with Reading!" Colleyville Public Library is bringing the joy of summer reading to patrons with both in-person storytime classes and READsquared, an engaging online platform.

Summer Reading Club starts Monday, May 24 and is open to children, teens, and adults and continues through July 23. Participants can track titles of books read or amount of time spent reading. Prizes and reading rewards are earned throughout the program by reaching designated reading achievements, along with weekly random surprise drawings.

Summer is just around the corner and that means it is time to start thinking about what your children will be doing once school is out. The City offers many fun summer camps to keep your kids learning and engaged. Some of these offerings include: Adventure Day Camp, a camp for ages 4-13 offering a range of activities from archery to scavenger hunts to crafts. One.Soccer for ages 3-16 offers day programs with advanced training for the player who is passionate about taking his/her game to the next level. There is also Junior Police Academy, Fire Camp, engineering and science camps, as well as art and animation camps.
