Sales Tax Update
sales tax istock
Colleyville continues to receive great news about sales tax! The City received its allocation from the comptroller's office for September, representing purchases from July, which is up 19% for the same month last year. Year-to-date growth is 14%. In terms of dollars, this represents a total year-to-date gain of $954,000 over last year. Sales tax helps fund police officer salaries and training, parks and library programs and facilities, as well as general city services. Keep up the great shopping!
FEMA Floodplain Maps Open House, October 23
FEMA floodplain map
On July 30, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) published official notice that a 90-day appeal period is underway in anticipation of the new floodplain map publication in November. Once published, the new map is to be adopted by our city within 6 months.

City staff has reviewed the new maps and identified 297 properties within Colleyville that will see a change in the floodplain designation for their property. Of those identified, 175 are minor in nature only impacting a small segment of the property. These minor changes will likely not result in the property owner being required to purchase flood insurance. The remaining 122 parcels will see significant changes to the floodplain designations on their property.

These 297 property owners have been mailed a letter inviting them to an open house at the Colleyville Center on September 23 at 6 PM. This event is intended to provide information to property owners regarding their appeal rights with FEMA. Additionally, staff will share the comments collected at this event with FEMA representatives at a subsequent meeting. While the city is working to assist property owners with information related to the FEMA process, all appeals and objections must be filed with FEMA exclusively. FEMA is the sole authority regarding flood plain designation.

This event is open to the public and all interested parties are invited to attend.
Bridge at White Chapel/Pleasant Run Now Open
whites chapel pleasant run bridge public works
On Monday, the cities of Colleyville and Southlake held a ribbon-cutting to officially open the Big Bear Creek Bridge at White Chapel/Pleasant Run. The City of Southlake and TxDOT initiated the full re-construction of the White Chapel Bridge in early January.

In coordination with the bridge project, the City took advantage of the closure to complete major improvements to Pleasant Run Road, from John McCain Road to the northern city limits.

Major improvements through the corridor include:
  • Sidewalks and/or trails to provide connectivity to major trails in the area
  • Addition of ribbon curbs with improved storm drain infrastructure
  • Upsizing of an existing waterline to a 12" line
  • Full depth asphalt rehabilitation of the road service.

Work continues on the Pleasant Run Road Project and is expected to be completed in Spring 2022.

Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus
mosquito alert
On Wednesday, September 15, the Tarrant County Health Department notified the City of Colleyville of positive test results for West Nile Virus in 3 of the 6 submitted mosquito samples for the week of September 9. The positive mosquito samples were located in the vicinities of 3200 Scarborough, 240 McDonwell School Road, and 5200 Bransford Road. This is the 12th sample that has tested positive for West Nile Virus in 2021.

The test sites were treated with larvicide and are scheduled for continued treatment and testing. Residents within a quarter-mile of the sample areas were notified by CodeRED. The positive results triggered targeted truck mounted fogging that was completed this week.

While the City is proactively working to control mosquito populations throughout town, citizen involvement and personal protection is essential. The best defense is to practice these habits, known as the "Three Ds":
  1. Use insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
  2. Dress in long sleeves and long pants when you are outside.
  3. Drain standing water where mosquitos breed. Common breeding sites include old tires, flowerpots, and clogged rain gutters.

For more information, visit the City of Colleyville's Mosquito Control and Management page or go to Tarrant County's Mosquito Prevention page.
