Time to Turn the Tide and Get Back on Track--America Needs Your Help
By Annisa Karim
Collier County Democratic Party Chair
Hello Democrats!
It’s June 2020 in America. We’ve passed the somber milestone of 100,000 COVID deaths in this country. States are opening up as the numbers continue to rise. Armed militias are attacking our state houses demanding that we ignore science and allow Trump to continue increasing our debt to unprecedented levels. Americans are being murdered in the streets by the very people sworn to protect them.
It’s getting harder and harder to recognize this country. It’s time to turn the tide. It’s time to focus and decide how much we actually want to work towards making sure that we elect sane leadership.
Ask yourself what you’re willing to do to make sure we elect leaders that believe in the promise of “liberty and justice for all." How much are you willing to work to elect people up and down the ballot that believe in science, in human rights, in freedom of speech, in the idea that everyone should have access to basic healthcare without going bankrupt
Can you donate time to help elect people that want to restore decency to the county, state, and federal government?
If you can volunteer, we have a job for you. Sign up for a Virtual Volunteer Orientation here:

We need your help. YOU are part of this Party and we need you to help us make it across the finish line. Here's how we win:
Ask three friends to register to Vote by Mail.
Make sure your friends and family are registered to vote.
Volunteer.
Our Country is depending on us.
Let’s keep moving

What Time Is It? It's Trivia Time!
Our third VIRTUAL Trivia game is right around the corner….join us!
Here’s how it works. You can pick your team members ahead of time. Everyone on your team should sign up to play (it’s a fundraiser). You don’t need a team to play….playing solo is sometimes more fun!
Then, on June 11 log-in and play. We’ll ask questions and you and your team can call each other (or text, or send smoke signals, or use your powers of telepathy….) and work out the answers.
At the end of each round, your PREDESIGNATED scribe will submit your team’s answers in the chat box.
Remember, you’ll be using the same team name for the entire game…so pick a good one. We'll also take a group photo!
For this on-line Trivia Fundraiser, we’ll rely on the honor system. Please do not use the internet or any other resources to search for answers.
Please forward this to your favorite Democrats all over the country. We can only accommodate 60 people….so register today.
Once you register, you’ll receive an email with the GoTo Meeting™ instructions. We’ll try to start the Trivia game as close to 6 p.m. on June 11 as possible, so plan on log-in in at 5:45 or so if you are not familiar with this platform.

In Memoriam: Carolyn Willis
(April 25, 1930 – May 28, 2020)
Our dear friend, Carolyn Willis, passed away on Thursday in hospice care. Carolyn died peacefully and her daughter, Georgia, was by her side.
Carolyn was born in Madison, Indiana; she had an affinity for reading and writing her whole life, which led her to a career in journalism. Carolyn met George while pursuing her Bachelor of Journalism degree at Indiana University. Once she confirmed he was a Democrat, she agreed to a first date.
George and Carolyn married and while George taught political science at the University of Toledo, Carolyn worked as a journalist and worked on the campaigns of Democrats at the local, state, and federal level. She was a key member of the 1988 Howard Metzenbaum campaign in Ohio. Carolyn worked hard to elect John Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. Additionally, she worked diligently on gubernatorial campaigns in Florida.
Carolyn and George Willis moved to Naples in 1990 and were charter members of the Collier County Democratic Party and the Collier County Democratic Club. She served as president of the Democratic Women’s Club of Collier County and the Secretary of the Collier Democratic Party.
Carolyn believed everyone deserved a fighting chance in this great country of ours; she instilled that value in her three children and worked hard to make sure we elected policy makers that believed in their communities as well.
Carolyn was loved by so many people and will be dearly missed. She leaves a legacy of love, grace, courage, and hard work. She believed in people – and that helped them believe in themselves.
When a memorial service is possible, we will provide those details.

Help Us Win In 2020
With Your $20.20 Donation
The Florida Democratic Party has announced that it is expanding its staff with the goal of having the largest state election organization in the country.
Here in Collier County, we expect to be more busy than ever before in 2020. Which is why we are blessed to have a party headquarters from which we can direct our efforts to turn Florida blue.
With the challenges we face because of the pandemic, this is more important now than ever as we prepare to relaunch our activities.
We need your help to sustain this--literally to keep the lights on and to help Democrats win. We are all volunteers, but there is overhead--printing, stamps, phones, rent, etc.
A sustaining donation of $20.20 a month will make a world of difference. Won't you help?
