Perennial Pick
Toad Lily
A true conversation piece for the woodland or shade garden, Tricyrtis hirta sports orchid-like blooms in late summer and early fall, in pastel shades with dark spots, resembling toad skin. Growing 1 to 3 feet tall and wide this herbaceous perennial is colonizing but not invasive. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil and is an excellent companion plant to ferns, coral bells and hostas. We have four varieties in stock currently: Amethystina, Hatatogisa, Sinome and Variegata.
Fun Find
'Hurricane' Bird's Nest Fern
This is the first time we've had this aptly named bird's nest fern in stock! In the wild this fern grows as an epiphyte, meaning it lives on the surface of other plants. Asplenium nidus grows best indoors in bright indirect light (an eastern or southern exposure is best) and can be grown outdoors in shade while temps are above 60 degrees. Keep soil evenly moist and provide some humidity (they are native to rainforests after all)- next to the tub or shower in a brightly lit bathroom is ideal. When mature this fern can reach 2 feet tall and wide.
