Collier's Garden Scoop
June 2018
We might think we are nurturing
our garden, but of course it's our garden that is really nurturing us.
Summer's slower pace has commenced, which makes June a perfect time to relax in and be "nurtured" by your garden. We still have a wide selection of annuals, perennials and herbs for those of you who would like to begin, or add to, your warm-season plantings. We wish you all a safe and happy summer, and look forward to seeing you at the nursery this month.

The Best Kind of Summer Blues...
...are the botanical sort, of course! Blue is one of the most popular flower colors and its allure is likely enhanced by the fact that it can be a bit hard to find. But, if you're craving this cool color in your garden you are in luck! We have three beautiful blue-bloomers in stock now. Planted alone or paired with white and silver, blue flowers bring a relaxed vibe to the landscape and counter the heat of summer with their chill hues.
Blue Daze
Evolvulus glomeratus
Plant in partial to full sun. Spreading, trailing habit. These cheerful blooms open wide during the day and close in the evening.
Cape Plumbago
Plumbago auriculata
Plant in partial to full sun. Upright, shrubby habit. Phlox-like clusters of flowers emerge into the fall. Deer resistant!
Black & Blue Salvia
Salvia guaranitica
Plant in partial to full sun. Quickly forms a large clump to 3 feet tall & wide. Unusually dark blue spikes all summer.
  Early Summer Combos We Love
We've put together two mixtures that combine around a dozen dependable summer annuals, all of which can be found at the nursery this month. Both combos thrive with 3 hours of direct sun, or more, each day. These durable choices are among our favorites for summer container gardens and flower beds.
In this bright, bold mix:
'Orange Marmalade' Crossandra
'QIS Carmine' Gomphrena
'Lemon Twist' Plectranthus
'New Gold' Lantana
'Euphoric White' Euphorbia
'Cascade Magenta' Cora Vinca
'Lemon Ball' Sedum
In this soft, mellow mix:
'Compact Orchid' Sunpatien
'Compact White' Sunpatien
'Fireworks' Fountain Grass
'Lucky Star Deep Pink' Penta
'Spotlight Black' Sweet Potato
'Falling Star White' Penta
'Surdiva Pink' Fanflower
