Happy Spring!

The nursery is filling up quickly and will be fully stocked by Good Friday. Truckloads of beautiful plants arrived this week, so there’s already plenty to choose from. Take a look below at what’s in stock this weekend and what we’re expecting next week. We look forward to seeing you during the planting season!

Spring Hours

Monday - Saturday 9 to 5:30

Sunday 12 to 5

There's an excellent variety of early spring annuals available at the nursery right now. The arrival of favorites like geraniums, petunias, marigolds, million bells and verbena always signals that the spring planting season has begun!

Especially tender annuals such as begonias, caladiums, coleus, impatiens, lantana, sweet potato vine, vinca and zinnias will start arriving next week.

We already have a good supply of tropical ferns (Boston, Kimberly Queen and Macho) and the first shipment of blooming tropicals is expected this coming Monday.

We'll have our first big batch of summer veggies -- including tomatoes and peppers -- by Good Friday, April 3rd.

Trees & Shrubs

We have a great selection of trees and shrubs right now. Our inventory has expanded over the last couple of weeks with new shipments of boxwoods, native azaleas, Encore azaleas, hydrangeas and more. It's best to plant these as soon as possible so they have time to establish strong root systems before hot, dry summer conditions set in.

Perennials

There are many new plants on our perennial tables right now, and many more arriving in the coming weeks! You'll find the best selection of the year during April and May. There are a few things that it is still a bit early for -- hostas and tropical perennials like cannas and elephant ears, for example, are still a couple of weeks away from making their first appearance.

Herbs

It's an excellent time to start your herb garden, and we have plenty to choose from -- including rosemary, lavender, thyme, sage and more. Tender herbs like basil, mint and lemon grass will begin arriving next week. Herbs thrive in full sun and well-drained soil. Herbs (and fragrant plants like marigolds) can also be planted around and among other plants to help deter deer.

6 Reasons We Love

Espoma Organic

& Our 6 Favorite Picks

We've expanded our selection of Espoma Organic fertilizers! Here are a few reasons why we feel great about recommending them to fellow gardeners:

  1. Family-owned since 1929 -- Espoma is a fourth-generation business in Millville, New Jersey.
  2. Their production facility is 100% solar powered!
  3. All raw materials are sourced in the USA.
  4. No fillers or sludge -- Just pure, high-quality ingredients with nothing harmful added.
  5. Their products are completely safe for children, pets and the environment.
  6. All of their fertilizers are fortified with beneficial microbes -- Like probiotics for your plants! These good bacteria help build strong roots and healthier soil.

Bio-tone Starter

Contains a higher concentration of beneficial bacteria than Espoma's other "Tone" products. It is also enhanced with mycorrhizae -- beneficial fungi that help feeder roots absorb more nutrients and water from the soil. Add it to the hole when planting trees, shrubs, vines, groundcovers and perennials.

Holly-tone

Espoma's original product from 1929 and now the top fertilizer for acid-loving plants. It contains elemental sulfur that naturally acidifies the soil. Use it on acid-loving plants like azaleas, blueberries, camellias, dogwoods, ferns, gardenias, hollies, hydrangeas and more.

Plant-tone

This is an all-purpose, slow-release fertilizer ideal for non-acid-loving plants. Boxwood and arborvitae fall into this category, so be sure to feed them with Plant-tone instead of Holly-tone. Like all Espoma fertilizers, Plant-tone is safe and won't burn plants.

Garden-tone

This is the best choice for fertilizing your herbs, veggies and edibles. Garden-tone is a blend of all natural and organic ingredients, including feather meal, poultry manure, bone meal, alfalfa meal and beneficial microbes. It's approved for organic use by the CDFA.

Tomato-tone

Tomato-tone is made with the same natural and organic ingredients as Garden-tone, but it has 8% calcium added to help prevent blossom end rot -- a common tomato problem caused by calcium deficiency. It has the highest calcium content of any product that helps protect tomatoes from blossom end rot.

Turf-tone

100% organic and safe for children and pets. Turf-tone All Season contains natural and organic ingredients, beneficial microbes and added iron to green up lawns. Turf-tone Weed Preventer is the only organic, granular pre-emergent. It uses corn gluten, which is 85% effective at preventing seed germination.

Early Spring Lawn Care

Apply fertilome For All Seasons to Bermuda and Zoysia lawns in early April. This is lawn food plus crabgrass and weed preventer.

If you prefer organic lawn care we recommend Turf-tone All Season Lawn Food and Turf-tone Weed Preventer.
