It finally feels like fall, y'all! What a relief after a long, hot summer. It is once again pleasant enough to get outside and dig in the garden and we are fully stocked for cool-season planting. Take a look below to see just a few of the standouts at the nursery right now, and stop by soon to peruse in person! We look forward to seeing you.

What's In Store for October

It's pansy-planting time! Pansies are the quintessential winter bloom for sun or partial sun. For shadier areas opt for violas as they have a better chance of blooming in less sun. Trailing pansies are a great choice to spill over the edge of containers and hanging baskets. We'll have our best selection of all of these between now and Thanksgiving.

Plant now for spring blooms: Snapdragons, dianthus, foxglove and stock will grow and bloom more vigorously next spring if planted soon. Snaps, dianthus and foxglove tend to be deer resistant, so if you struggle with them munching on your pansies try these options instead so you don't miss out on flowers in your cool-season garden.

Accent and enhance cool-season flowers or add color and texture to very shady areas of the garden with evergreen foliage that persists through winter.

We still have a good selection of mums, however our growers are beginning to run low on them so come by and get yours soon before they disappear! Don't forget that chrysanthemums are perennial and can be planted in the ground when you're done using them in your fall displays (best in full or partial sun).

Dig now, enjoy later: bulbs for fall planting have arrived! We recommend planting after Thanksgiving to lessen the chance of untimely warm temps causing the bulbs to grow prematurely. We have allium, amaryllis, garlic, grape hyacinth, hyacinth, iris, narcissus, paperwhites, peonies, snowdrops, spider lilies, trillium and tulips in stock.

Adorable 'bulbs in the bottom' pots sport colorful pansy blooms over the winter months, with the added bonus of tulips that will pop up next spring! These little pots are a great way to add color around the garden or in small outdoor spaces, and they also make fun gifts for your green-thumbed friends and family.

Fall is when perennial grasses, with their showy plumes, really shine in the landscape. We have a great selection of these at the nursery right now including eight varieties of Panicum, Pennisetum and muhly grass (pictured here: White Cloud muhly grass). These add spectacular texture to the garden!

As many of you already know, autumn is the ideal time to tackle those landscaping projects and get trees and shrubs planted. This allows them all winter and spring to get their roots established before another hot, dry season sets in. We've received several large shipments this week with more expected next week!

Select roses are 50% off

just in time for fall planting! Add Knockout, Drift, Rise Up Ringo, Oso Easy or At Last roses to your landscape for bargain prices! 2 and 3 gallon pots, regularly priced $29.99 to $34.99. These can be pruned back in February as needed and will bloom spring through fall next year.
