CLUB NEWS

Coaches and Skaters, With our sessions becoming a little more crowded these days, we ask skaters and coaches to remember a few very important rules, listed here.

  1. Avoid coaching and/or practicing in the lutz corners
  2. The skater doing their program has the right of way
  3. Spins are to be executed in the middle of the rink except if the skater is in their program with music.
  4. Coaches, please stand within 6 feet of the wall while coaching unless actively doing choreography.

Remember these rules are for everybody’s safety, and please talk to a coach or someone in the Colonial Office if you have any questions about these or any rules.

This is a brief reminder to all that masks, covering the mouth and nose, are required here at NVO, unless you are fully vaccinated.  If you are not vaccinated, we hope that you will be considerate of all the populations we serve, including children and high-risk populations who are unable to get vaccinated, and wear a mask.

FINAL CALL for Colonial Club Jackets:  If you wish to order a jacket, please place your order by Sunday, October 3.  Jackets are $80, which includes logos on the back and front, and the skater’s name on the sleeve.  There is one jacket available in the Colonial office for you to check it out.  To order, please use this link:  Log In to Order

LEARN TO SKATE & ASPIRE

LEARN TO SKATE

Learn to Skate is a joint program run by the Colonial Figure Skating Club and the Nashoba Skating School. All lessons are taught by Skating Professionals.

From Snowplow Sam through Basic Level 6, skaters learn to skate in a fun, supportive, positive environment.

Many parents and skaters ask, What’s Next? Here at Colonial, skaters may progress into the Aspire program, Aspire Synchro class, Edge & Performance and/or Intro to Theatre on Ice. These programs are all for skaters from Basic 5 on up. Make sure to check out the information located elsewhere in this newsletter.

Your skater may also benefit by working with a private coach, who can help with mastering difficult skills, and supporting the skater with next steps as they progress. Each Learn to Skate class includes the opportunity to register for a 15-minute private lesson, so talk to your teacher to learn more about this program.

ASPIRE ADVANCED SKILLS

Colonial's Aspire Advanced Skills program is the next step after Learn to Skate classes. We still have space in all three of our Fall classes, which meet Mondays 4:50 p.m., Thursdays 4:50 p.m. and Sundays 1:30 p.m.

Please contact [email protected] for more information.

Enrolled in Aspire?  Here is more information for you.

You may like to try our Aspire Synchro program that meets on Wednesday afternoons, beginning October 27.  You may also enjoy our Intro to Theatre on Ice class, Thursday evenings.  Both programs are open to all Aspire-level skaters and promise to be lots of fun!

Our Championship Series competitors will perform on Rink 1 for our club members, family and friends to cheer them on and wish them all the best in their competition! We hope everyone will join us to celebrate!

Colonial celebrates excellence, as we strive for the highest standards in all endeavors. So that we can honor our champions, recognize achievement at all levels, and inspire skaters to reach new goals, we are seeking members to join our Awards and Recognition Committee. Please email [email protected] if you are interested or want to learn more about this committee.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE ON OUR MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

The Membership Committee will be a group of 4-5 members, who will serve important working and advisory roles within the Colonial community.  The working activities are to support the staff function of reviewing member applications, submitting monthly lists to the board for approval, and ensuring that all members are promptly registered with USFS.  As an advisory group, the committee will work to review membership procedures, and make recommendations for improvement as applicable.  Lastly, and the most fun part of the committee, is to brainstorm and share ideas for building community in the club, making sure our members have opportunities to meet and interact with each other, and come up with ways to welcome new members and help our club to grow!

Bill Heeney and Jennifer Smith are the co-Chairs of the Membership Committee, and are eager to get started!  You can expect to meet approximately once per month from October through May, and meetings are currently held through Zoom.  Meetings will be scheduled based on committee members’ availability.

If you are interested in serving on this committee, or want to learn more about it, please email [email protected].  Thank you, in advance, for your interest.
