You may be already aware that Governor DeSantis and the Florida Department of Education have recommended the closure of all schools in Florida and a continuation of distance learning through the end of the school year. Orange Technical College campuses and off-site locations are also closed. This announcement was just made on Saturday.

There are two other important reminders for the week ahead that impact our Grenadiers. Beginning Monday, April 20, until further notice, all schools and district offices will be closed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Staff will still be available by email on those days between 9 a.m.and 2 p.m. Limited staff will be working and taking telephone calls Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. School offices will be open but by appointment only. Please call or email the school for an appointment. Free Grab-and-Go meals for needy students will continue to be available at 52 sites, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

As I have written in the space before since distance learning began after the spring break, thank you so much to our students, families and staff for their continued patience and efforts as we navigate through this final nine-week quarter. As always, in every issue of the Colonial Connection we continue to post links to resources that can benefit our families. Please look these over as some many benefit your household.

Stay well and please practice all health safety precautions again this week.

It's Great To Be A Grenadier!

Dr. Maestre
Principal

Important Remindersreminders

1. Communication:  Teachers are making daily contact with their students.  Some phone numbers, email addresses, or mailing addresses are out of date, therefore, you may be missing important updates and information regarding district decisions. Please contact elizabeth.fuller@ocps.net to update your contact information.

2. Attendance and Grades: Attendance is still being submitted for each day and assignments are being graded.  It is critical that you login to Canvas each day and submit the work assigned by each teacher.  If you have questions, communicate with your teacher during their virtual office hours.  If you have not heard from your teacher, call the school.

3. VIRTUAL Pep Rally: Check your Canvas courses daily to find out what time the Pep Rally starts... on April 24!

4. Class Cabinet Elections: Voting will take place virtually through a form on Canvas the week of April 20-23. You can only vote once for your grade level.

5. Tech Support Process: Please see the graphic below for assistance. Start by using the Troubleshooting Tips.

Distance Learning Support

In each issue we will provide resources that you may find useful during Distance Learning.

Help students by providing structure to the week/day:
Online or offline- distance Learning is new for everyone! In many cases your child's teacher may provide assignments that are due by the end of the week. Help your students avoid the Friday crunch by planning out their week, so distance learning fits your family's lifestyle.

Try this weekly planner to help! #OCPSDistanceAssistance

How to create a weekly To Do list in Canvas Calendar:

When students are engaging in distance learning they may have several assignments due on one day, and without a normal bell schedule to guide them they could get overwhelmed. Help them by developing a daily routine that fits your family.
