Colonial High School
CHS Community Member,
Play Ball! I had the privilege of being asked to throw out the first pitch of the baseball season’s first home game, Colonial versus Freedom High this past week. The baseball team is away today vs. Cypress Creek's Bears, but the Grenadiers will be back in action at home tomorrow vs. Wekiva. Our spring sports are underway, so please support our Grenadiers when you can. Here is this week's schedule from our Grenadier Athletics website.

In this week's edition you will find several important deadlines mentioned such as for Valencia's dual enrollment and other college prep opportunities. If these apply to you or your student, please take action as soon as possible. Have a wonderful week!

It's Great To Be A Grenadier!

Curriculum Highlights
This week we turn the spotlight on our ELA 10 classes . . .
Ms. Valladreas’ ELA 10 students are collaboratively analyzing the relevance and credibility of support provided in a speech by Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Mr. Way is asking elaborative questions about the claims and counterclaims in his ELA 10 classroom.
Mr. Emery’s ELA 10 students are contributing to a shared analysis of the argument in Roosevelt’s speech. The different colored highlighting represents each student’s contribution to the group analysis.
Community footnote: In the top two pictures from our 10th grade ELA classes you can see the "whiteboards" in the teachers' classrooms. Both our face-to-face and LaunchED students know that their ELA teachers post details each day about what is going to be covered. For instance, a student can look at this quickly to find out info. on learning targets, activites for the day, assessments, etc.

FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid
Source: Florida College Access Network - compare OCPS high schools
In Florida, 58% of high-school seniors completed the FAFSA last year; those who didn’t left more than $100 million on the table in federal Pell grants, according to the Florida College Access Network, which works to increase FAFSA completion rates in our state. Please contact our College and Career Specialist, Mr. Witham, with questions or for help. Please remember that the College Board's Opportunity Scholarships are tied to FAFSA completion.
