Colonial High School
CHS Community Member,
This past week was National School Counselors Week. Our Colonial counselors work so very hard every day and we are most blessed to have such a wonderful group of caring professionals. Our counselors, and the whole CHS Student Services team, are engaged in a wide variety of activities for the benefit of our Grenadiers throughout the year. Here is a partial list of their responsibilities:

  • Student schedules
  • Counseling students who are not passing their classes
  • Checking credits for our students for graduation
  • Advising students and parents on courses
  • Orientations for the incoming 9th grade students
  • Career, college, and military service planning
  • Counseling students who are in crisis or just need to talk
  • Student 504 plans
  • Parent conferences
  • Coordinating with our feeder middle schools for 8th graders going into 9th grade at Colonial
  • Coordinating with Orange County Virtual School and Florida Virtual School
  • Working with our Seniors on scholarship opportunities

Please click here for the names and emails of all our Colonial counselors. If you or your student has had a particularly helpful experience with one of them this year, kindly take a moment to send them an email. I know they would love to hear from you and it would mean a great deal.

As always, thank you for your continued support during this extraordinary school year and best wishes for a successful week ahead.

It's Great To Be A Grenadier!

FFA Grenadiers - State Champs!
Colonial's FFA Team Wins the Food Science & Technology State Championship!
On Saturday, January 30, the Florida FFA Food Science and Technology Career Development Event (CDE) state championship finals were held virtually across the state. A preliminary round was held earlier in the school year and the top 5 high school teams earned the opportunity to compete for the state championship.

We are so excited to announce that Colonial High School's FFA earned the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!

Our Grenadiers demonstrated their skills in sensory evaluation, food safety and food quality. Additionally, the team had to make a presentation on an assigned scenario - food product and development - and were required to include food nutrition knowledge, food cost analysis, food production and target food marketing. The team also had to take a comprehensive exam covering the food science and technology industry.

This CDE is designed to promote learning activities in food science and technology related to the food industry and to assist students in developing practical knowledge of principles used in a team decision-making process.

Our FFA students will next be recognized and receive their state awards at the Florida FFA State Convention in June. Our FFA chapter will also advance to the national event at the National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana this October.

Bravo Grenadiers!

Lost Opportunity: In Florida, 58% of high-school seniors completed the FAFSA last year; those who didn’t left more than $100 million on the table in federal Pell grants, according to the Florida College Access Network, which works to increase FAFSA completion rates in the state.
