We open up this second week of a new school quarter having enjoyed a very successful Cage the Cougar Week and College Week. You will find a few highlights below and thank you again to everyone that was actively involved. I would also like to congratulate our varsity football team as they scored 60 points Friday night to defeat University in the Annual Boot Game - an outstanding effort Grenadiers!

A few reminders for this week:

* On Tuesday, October 29th, 9th and 10th grade students will participate in a Writing Workshop. This practice will count for a grade and will be used by teachers to determine strengths and areas for growth. Most importantly, this practice will be used by teachers to plan lessons based on student needs. Make sure you are on time with your laptop charged and ready!

* There is no after school tutoring or buses on either Tuesday or Thursday of this week. Tutoring will resume on Tuesday, November 5th.

* OCPS will be offering another one its excellent Parent Academy events this coming Saturday morning (starts at 9:00 a.m.) at Oak Ridge High School. These are very well done and I encourage any of our Grenadier families to consider participating. The title of this session is This is Us: Our Family, Our School, Our Community - Details and online registration (may register on-site ahead of start time).

* Due to some vendor network issues experienced by Orange County Public Schools, report cards will be delayed by one day. Report cards will now be distributed to parents on Tuesday, October 29th instead of Monday, October 28th. Report cards will also appear in Skyward Family Access on Tuesday.

Have a good Monday morning and thank you for looking over our progress!

It's Great To Be a Grenadier!

Community footnote: The Northwestern University Wildcats (Evanston, IL) 34-game losing streak is the longest in Division I college football history. During the team's winless 1981 season, the Wildcats were outscored 505-82 - an average of 40 points per game. What many do not know is that Northwestern University is consistently ranked among the Top 10 U.S. colleges by any ranking service year after year. During this losing streak at home football games their students would hold up signs in the stands with this simple message:

"That's okay, y'all be working for us one day."

The Northwestern University art library on their Evanston campus near Chicago

The point? Getting a quality education was #1 and the Northwestern students understood that. Colonial offers this opportunity to all of our students and they are encouraged to take advantage of each and every school day.

Make it a great week Grenadiers! And don't forget, this is Red Ribbon Week!
