Welcome new and returning Grenadiers to the 2017-2018 school year!

Day one is already in the books and I am very pleased to share that it was a successful first day. It was wonderful to see all of our students arrive at both campuses yesterday morning ready to embark on what promises to be a terrific academic year (see below). In this special welcome back issue, we have included some important reminders here in week #1 such as the CHS dress code, progress reports/report cards, college financial aid applications, SAT/ACT exams and more.

Here at the start of the new school year, I encourage any student or parent that has questions to please reach out to their teachers, guidance counselor or a member of the leadership team. We are here to help and are available when needed.

This is a longer issue so I will keep my opening brief. However, always remember . . . It's Great to be a Grenadier!

Note:
If you no longer attend or have a student attending CHS and do not want to read future issues, you may opt out at the very top of this edition. However, if you do so, your email will be permanently removed from the system as a security step. We hope you will continue.

Community Service Update

Beginning with the 2017-2018 school-year, all high schools will use the OCPS School Community Service Plan to document community service for OCPS students.

In order for students to satisfy the community service requirement for Bright Futures eligibility, they must:
  • Develop a written community service plan which addresses a social problem or concern and his or her personal involvement in addressing the issue.
  • Submit community service documentation to a school counselor upon completion of the approved activity, which includes an essay or other presentation in which the student evaluates and reflects upon his or her experience
Community service projects will not be accepted if they were completed for: a)  a family member or b) prior to the summer before entering Grade 9.

FAFSA

fafsa

The FAFSA will open again for Seniors on October 1. Starting in September all of our high schools will be hosting a Financial Aid Information Session in order for students and parents to learn more about the FAFSA and how to pay for college. There will also be various FAFSA Help Sessions held at each high school as well as at every Parent Academy after October 1 in order for families to get the support they need to complete the FAFSA.

This Week's Motivational Moment

SUCCESS THE DISNEY WAY

Think "tomorrow."
Make today's efforts pay off tomorrow.

Free the imagination.
You are capable of more than you can imagine -
so imagine the ultimate.

Strive for lasting quality.
"Good enough" never is.

Have "stick-to-it-ivity."
Never,  never, never give up.

Have fun.
You're never truly a success until you
enjoy what you are doing.

We are all glad you're back Grenadiers! Congratulations on a successful day one.
