Colonial High School
CHS Community Member
If you are opening this issue on Labor Day, I hope it finds you enjoying the holiday. The first Monday in September of each year is a legal holiday as per an act of Congress from June 28, 1894. Classes will resume on schedule Tuesday morning.

As we enter the new month of September, our wonderful educators will continue to provide quality instruction every day just as they have since the first day of school on August 10th. However, September is also recognized as "Attendance Awareness Month" across the United States. Each day of instruction represents a fresh opportunity for our Grenadiers and each day also builds upon the day before. This is why we encourage students and their families to make every school day count; not just during September, but every day throughout 2023-2024. In past issues of the Colonial Connection we have shared data illustrating the economic benefits from education as we want all of our Grenadiers to be as prepared as possible once their high school experience is over.
We have an expanded calendar of upcoming events in this week's update. Please take a close look for any dates that may apply to you or your student. Thank you very much for reading.

It's Great To Be A Grenadier!

College Scholarships / FAFSA
One of the topics to be covered with our seniors on September 14th is the subject of college scholarships. Over the course of the year, Student Services will also be offering guidance with respect to the FAFSA—the Free Application for Federal Student Aid paperwork.

The Wall Street Journal, Aug. 31, 2023:
The goal is to make the college financial-aid form easier to understand and fill out, and more generous to families in need. (WSJ story by Cheryl Winokur Munk)

Excerpt from last Thursday's WSJ article for our Grenadiers:
Significant changes are coming to the FAFSA—the Free Application for Federal Student Aid—for the 2024-25 academic year.

There has been a continuing effort to make the FAFSA—the filing that college parents or students must make each year to be eligible for federal aid—easier to understand, less onerous to fill out and more generous to families in need of help. These changes, many of which have been legislatively mandated, should be evident in the new FAFSA expected to be available later this year.
