This past week was our first regular five-day school week and by this point our Grenadiers are pretty well settled in. Rigorous instruction is taking place in the classrooms and we have been reviewing the policies and procedures of Colonial High School all along. With respect to policies and procedures, we do need all of our parents to complete the required annual Parent Consent Forms this week if not done already. Chief among these is the emergency contact form. The forms may be found through the OCPS Parent Portal and this short tutorial video can also help.
This coming Saturday we will be hosting an excellent OCPS Parent Academy titled "A Guide to a Successful School Year" on our main campus. If you have never attended one of these Parent Academy sessions and have a student enrolled at OCPS, they are extremely well done and this one is perfectly time at the front-end of a new school year. As it will be conducted at our high school, this is an excellent opportunity not to be missed. I hope our community will take advantage of it.
Have a good week and thank you for reading about some of our latest Grenadier happenings.

Leydializ Aviles, student in the Colonial Animal Sciences Dept.
|
Our SAE officer Leydializ Aviles was selected for the Fall 2023 Have You HERD student program! We are excited for her to be a student in the Animal Sciences department and step into the life of a UF student. She will have an individual itinerary based on her interests within Animal Science. Leydiliz was selected through a statewide application process and we couldn’t be prouder that her hard work as an Animal Science student and FFA member have opened this opportunity!

Colin Powell's Leadership & Life Lessons for our Grenadiers
|
Colin Powell (1937-2021) was a four-star general, the 12th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and secretary of state. He left behind an important legacy of leadership that both students and adults can learn from. Powell had a reputation for being a problem-solver.

Powell's 13 Rules Of Leadership
1. It ain’t as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning.
2. Get mad, then get over it.
3. Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it.
4. It can be done!
5. Be careful what you choose.
6. Don’t let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision.
7. You can’t make someone else’s choices.
8. Check small things.
9. Share credit.
10. Remain calm. Be kind.
11. Have a vision. Be demanding.
12. Don’t take counsel of your fears or naysayers.
13. Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.
