Colonial High School
CHS Community Member
Thank you to everyone from the community who joined us last week at Open House or for our MPLC meeting. Family involvement is so critical to the success of our students, so we sincerely appreciated everyone's personal time.

Parents and guardians, please remember that we did release student progress reports last week and they are up on Skyward - our online student informational system. If you have never used Skyward, please make sure you can access it today with the help of this very brief, but well done parent video.

Thank you to our Latinos in Action students for their work in mapping out what promises to be a fun Hispanic Heritage Month Spirit Week. Each school day this week carries with it a unique theme. I hope all of our Grenadiers will join in!

Thank you very much for reading about some of our latest Grenadier successes and other news. Have a wonderful week!

It's Great To Be A Grenadier!

Senior Valerie Rodriguez teaches Glenridge Middle School agriculture students on Ag Day.
Pictured above, Valerie Rodriguez was in the classroom educating middle school students about poultry and related topics. In his weekly Community Brief to the Glenridge Middle community which also ran today, Principal Daniel Kempinger included the following story about Valerie...

Agricultural Science with Ms. Glenn:
In recognition of National Teach Ag Day, Ms. Valerie Rodriguez, a senior student at Colonial High School, was teaching Ms. Glenn's Ag classes on Thursday. As you can see below, the students enjoyed having her on campus. Incidentally, Colonial High School's agriculture program wins state level awards year-after-year for the success of both their Veterinary Animal Science and Service curriculum and their FFA program. Colonial's agriculture reputation is well established both in our district and throughout Florida. Thank you to Ms. Rodriguez and Colonial High School.
Glenridge agriculture students with the chickens Valerie brought to the middle school to assist with her presentation. The picture pretty well tells the story of the day—their "Lions" enjoyed learning from Valerie and we know that the middle school was glad to have her on campus! "It's Great To Be A Grenadier!"

Colonial Academics
Our Flight Academy simulator is up and running and students were able to practice flying this past week!
Third and 4th period Flight Academy students have been working hard at learning how to fly a basic Bounce Pattern. Fifth period student, Yangel Lopez and 3rd period student, Kevin Nyugen worked hard at assembling and setting up our “Frankenstein” simulator (they pieced milled it together). Mr. Lopez spent time with 3rd and 4th period Flight Team Leads working on their Bounce Patterns and in turn those Flight Team Leads are now working with their Flight Team members to master the art of Flying a Bounce Pattern around Orlando Executive Airport – of course on the simulators.
The Flight Academy RPO students spent their Friday working on their drone skills:

U.S. News & World Report College Rankings for 2024 released this week:

Excerpt from the Jeff Weiner Orlando Sentinel article:
The University of Florida again was rated as the state’s top college in the annual U.S. News and World Report rankings released Monday, with the Gainesville university placing in the top 30 for colleges nationwide.

Meanwhile, the University of Central Florida ranked sixth in the state, ties for the 124th-best college overall and the nation’s 64th-best public school.

UF is the nation’s 28th highest-ranked school, improving one place from its ranking last year. The college was tied with three others in the national ranking: the University of Southern California, the University of California, San Diego and the University of California, Davis.
Jobs in the Central Florida area with median hourly wages at $50.00 and up:
* Only includes those positions where the FDEO could breakout the median hourly wage.

CAUTION NOTE FOR OUR GRENADIERS:
While income is obviously a key factor when considering a career path, it is not the only consideration. We included this list to give our Grenadiers some idea of what the median hourly wage looks like in our area for the higher paying positions (2022). As you can see, most of these jobs require post-secondary education. While you are still at Colonial, please take advantage of our College and Career Center when making career, college, or military service plans.
The Quarterback Club
Wednesday, September 20th:
This past week, both current and former Grenadiers were together during the High School Office “Quarterback Club” meeting. During this meeting, principals work together to share different initiatives going on around their school and make recommendations as to how we can work together as #ONEOCPS to bring these ideas along to other campuses.
