Last week our Grenadiers successfully completed another nine-week quarter and once classes resume on Monday, March 25th, we will begin the final quarter of 2023-2024. The 4th quarter is usually the busiest period of any high school year with special events, senior activities & graduation, year-end assessments and more. Therefore, I ask that all members of our large Colonial family use these next few days for some well earned down time and hopefully, spending some of that time with family and friends.
Wishing you a wonderful and safe spring break, I look forward to seeing everyone back March 25th for what I know will be a productive and exciting rest of the school year!
It's Great To Be A Grenadier!

* STEM jobs — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — are expected to grow twice as fast as non-STEM jobs through 2031.

Two weekends ago, three of our students competed for a spot at our National Qualifiers. We made school history! We are beyond proud to announce that Shekinah Henriette is ranked the TOP PUBLIC SCHOOL extemporaneous speaker in our national district. Mauvy Ramirez is also the first Colonial student to advance to the final round of original oratory, where she delivered a moving ten-minute speech she wrote and memorized. Shekinah Henriette and Katie Klinkhammer will be representing Colonial in Des Moines, Iowa this summer at nationals!
And we have one more VERY important award to announce: our very own Betzabeth Reussow unanimously won the National Speech and Debate Association Panther District Administrator of the Year award for her dedication to our Speech and Debate program. Principal Reussow has gone out of her way to support our team in every way she possibly can, from cheering us on to allowing 600 teenagers to take over our school on the weekends for tournaments. Colonial is also the host of our district's Debate DPLC every quarter thanks to Ms. Reussow's hospitality.

2. Save the dollars you earned: Our VITA volunteers want to help you save the dollars our community members earned by providing this service for FREE! Instead of paying to file their taxes, the dollars people save filing with VITA can go toward food, rent, and other basic needs.
3. Take advantage of available tax credits: VITA also provides essential information to verify if you are eligible for any tax credits including the federal Earned Income Tax Credit to help maximize tax refunds.
4. Virtual VITA sites are available: There is a virtual option available at select VITA sites where you can bring your tax documents to be scanned by a VITA volunteer. Then, our certified volunteer tax preparer will complete the return for you remotely and will contact you for a final review before filing.
