Colonial High School
Dear Mark,

We have already made it to the midpoint of the summer break with all OCPS campuses being closed the week of July 1 and reopening on July 8. I hope this finds you enjoying your summer so far and finding quality time to unwind, rest, plus visit more frequently with family and friends. While most of our Grenadiers have been gone since the end of the school year, we have been very busy on both campuses preparing for a successful start to 2024-2025. Examples include: summer school which concluded this past Thursday, the hiring of new teachers and staff as needed, interior deep cleaning of classrooms, hallways, cafeterias and other locations, exterior and other property improvements, diploma pick-ups, and a number of professional trainings for both teachers and staff—several of which we featured in this issue.

Below you will find some important back to school information along with a few recent Grenadier success stories and other happenings. As I look back on the previous school year, I am so proud of what our school accomplished, our professionalism as a staff, and most important, our collective commitment to doing our best for every student, every day. Summer is a great time to reflect and make any adjustments for the year ahead. Therefore, we will continue to work throughout the summer to make sure everything is ready for the new school year. We have an outstanding team of professionals set to once again make sure each of our Grenadiers receive the very best high school education.

Enjoy the July 4th holiday and if traveling, please drive safely and use every precaution with fireworks. Thank you for reading.

It's Great To Be A Grenadier!

Staff Spotlight

Colonial Leadership Team preparing for 2024-2025

The Colonial leadership team spent two days at West Orange High School for this year’s Instructional Leadership Institute learning and preparing for next year!

Professional Development over Summer Break

Dr. Boyer and Colonial's English teachers study literacy strategies to build stronger readers and writers.

The Florida Department of Education hosted the 2024 Secondary Regional Literacy Institute at the Omni Champions Gate this past week. Assistant Principal Dr. Boyer and English Teachers from both campuses were able to attend and learn more literacy strategies and how to better serve students.

Engelwood Kidz Zone

Colonial's leadership team learns about Englewood neighborhood programs to benefit both our current and future students.

A big THANK YOU to the Engelwood Kidz Zone for welcoming the Colonial Leadership Team this past week for some time to learn about the program and opportunities for building relationships.

Over the past 10 years, the City of Orlando has incrementally increased its investments in Engelwood’s children, creating a pipeline of evidence-based programs for the neighborhood’s children from Kindergarten through 12th grade. These investments include a 21st Century Community Learning Center at the Engelwood Neighborhood Center and Roberto Clemente Middle School, an Operation AmeriCorps program at Colonial High School, and philanthropic funds, via Orlando After-School All-Stars, for Opportunity Jobs Academy at Colonial High School.

Investments in Engelwood aim to:

  • Increase the number of young children attending high quality preschool programs
  • Build positive parenting skills
  • Mitigate family economic instability
  • Enhance children’s physical health and wellness
  • Support academic success among elementary, middle and high school children
  • Increase the number of youth entering – and completing – post-secondary education
  • Keep older youth out of trouble and on a positive track toward social and economic success.
