Colonial High School
CHS Community Member
This week we will administer state assessment retakes which many of our Grenadiers will be sitting for. Please remember, as with all exams this year, to get a good night's rest prior to the day of the event. Sleep plus breakfast the day of the test will help give any student an edge. (The schedule of exams is shown below in our calendar dates).

We recently announced our nominations for Teachers of the Year and Support Persons of the Year on both the main and ninth grade center campuses. This is a major career achievement for Mrs. Havrilesko, Mrs. Gonzalez, Mrs. Torres, and Mrs. Santiago Perez (all pictured just below). If you happen to see any of these four dedicated professionals this week, kindly take a moment to congratulate them on their recognition. I know they would greatly appreciate hearing from our wonderful Colonial community.

Finally, a reminder for our Seniors. This Thursday evening is a special evening that you do not want to miss (flyer below). We will be covering a number of important topics which knowing about sooner vs. later will greatly help towards your success this year and with college plans if that applies. Please make every effort to attend with family.

Thank you for reading.

Health Science Students
Colonial Health Science students meet with UCF Physicians
Colonial represented us very well by having the largest groups, as well as speaking fluently asking career and clinical questions with the panel of seven UCF Medical University Physicians. Our students completed the clinical rotation while practicing intubation, triage, hands only CPR, and first aid training. Colonial was also invited back for the Stop the Bleed session October 14th.
Classroom Supplies for our Teachers
Pencil Boy Express
Pencil Boy Express van delivered free school supplies to assist teachers and students.
A Gift for Teaching Pencil Boy Express visited Colonial High School this past week and we are so thankful for the opportunity provided to our teachers! Teachers were able to shop for free school supplies for their students and classrooms! They served a total of 86 teachers from 15 schools and $26,000 worth of supplies were distributed. Specifically, 66 teachers from Colonial shopped for a value of nearly $19,000.

We also appreciated the assistance from our Air Force JROTC cadets as they helped the shopping run smoothly.
Club Rush Highlights
Club Rush took place last week and it gave all of our Grenadiers opportunities to learn about our clubs and organizations on campus! Students met with other student representatives to see what their club or organization was all about. Interested students could sign up to get more information or join on the spot!

In Memory of Xzavier
It is with a heavy heart that we share news of the loss of a student. Xzavier was a young man whose kind and gentle soul had a positive impact on those around him. His smile would brighten any space he entered. He possessed a quiet, confident disposition that put others at ease. He valued education and loved his family, friends, and the special people in his life. It is clear that we have lost a bright and shining light in our lives. Xzavier will be deeply missed.

Donations to be made in memory of Xzavier will be used to support the family with unexpected expenses that arise during this difficult time. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help make a difference, and while your gift is not tax-deductible (since it will be transferred directly to Xzavier’s family), it is greatly appreciated by his family.

Please share this message with your family and friends, and most importantly, please keep Xzavier's family and his friends in your prayers. Xzavier, you will always be loved, and you will forever remain in our hearts.

Thank you for your compassion and generosity.

Grenadier footnote: We especially encourage our Class of 2024 seniors to reach out to Ms. Alyssa McNair, College and Career Specialist, in our College and Career Center this school year with any questions about paying for college. As the chart above shows, the use of college loans to pay for college can be very expensive and might limit post college options when it comes to buying a house, purchasing a new car, etc. Ms. McNair can explain all the options available with respect to financial aid.
