Dear Colorado NAHRO Members,
We hope your 2020 is off to a great start! Colorado NAHRO has had an impressive start to the year thanks to the dedication of our outstanding conference planning committee comprised of representatives from Member organizations, who are hard at work in planning the 2020 annual conference.
This year’s CO NAHRO Maintenance and Management Conference - Housing with a Heart - will take place in Vail May 11-15, 2020
. Registration will open in mid-February, and trust us when we say, this year’s conference is one not to miss!
Before we look ahead to a great 2020, we wanted to take a quick moment to share with you our Annual Report featuring some highlights from the work of our chapter in 2019, where we made significant progress to advance our mission to enhance the affordable housing industry and promote viable communities in Colorado through professional development, advocacy and networking opportunities.
Advocacy and Visibility
2019 was a big year for affordable housing. Not only did the legislators provide significant funding for affordable housing, they also tackled manufactured housing, landlord‐tenant issues, supportive services, developer incentives, and a host of other related issues. Through CO NAHRO’s partnership with
Housing Colorado
, we helped ensure legislation was effective, based on good business practices, and balanced the needs of those who manage properties with residents.

of the 2019 Colorado Legislative Session.
Specifically, CO NAHRO is proud to have supported the passage of several funding bills that help infuse new revenue resources into affordable housing organizations and opportunities across the state, as well as the Residential Tenant Health and Safety Act, where we worked hard to evolve the bill to be balanced for landlords and tenants.
In addition, CO NAHRO facilitated opportunities throughout the year to ensure the voice of our nearly 200 Member organizations were heard on both the state, regional and national levels.
Professional Development and Networking
Nearly 400 affordable housing and community development professionals joined us last year in Vail for our annual conference, where we held more than 60 sessions aimed at supporting the networking, education and growth of our industry across the state. In addition, we hosted local industry leaders at a Commissioner’s Training that explored the roles and responsibilities of commissioners and enhanced the understanding of the commissioner's multi-faceted position as advocate, leader, team-builder, strategist and more.
We’ll be sharing more about our 2020 goals in upcoming newsletters, including new opportunities to get involved with CO NAHRO and further your involvement in the affordable housing in Colorado and beyond. Have ideas for how we can make your Membership even more valuable?

Opening Doors to Public Housing: Request for Proposal
The Vera Institute of Justice—with funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA)—is soliciting applications from public housing authorities that, in collaboration with their justice system partners, would benefit from technical assistance as they seek to plan and implement reentry programs and/or change their policies regarding people with conviction histories in order to safely increase access to housing for people with criminal records.
