Lived Experience Advisory Committee Co-Chair Announcement
We are excited to announce that the Colorado System of Care (CO-SOC) Lived Experience Advisory Committee has selected two co-chairs, Dani Sondrol and Jerrica Thurston. Co-chairs for the Lived Experience Advisory Committee will plan meeting agendas, facilitate advisory committee meetings, execute action items and inform HCPF staff on implementation, development, and evaluation of CO-SOC. Co-chairs have shared a few words below on what they are looking forward to in this work.
“My Pronouns are She/Her/They, and my preferred name is Dani. I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to delve deeper as a committee co-chair. My life began in poverty; my youth and mental health were significantly impacted by this, and moving into the world as a young mother, it felt like the cards were stacked against me. Over the course of my life, I have lived in nearly every setting, from rural to urban, both coasts, and the expansive Midwest. Throughout my life, my family has heavily relied on Medicaid to provide resources and access to help. Overcoming these adversities at every stage of my life has provided me with a deep well of lived experience knowledge. Struggling with poverty and being a young mother, instinctively, the drive to advocate for mental and behavioral youth health is overwhelming. My experiences have shaped the way I parent my children, actively seek help, and fuel my ambitions to be in every possible advocacy space to share my knowledge in hopes of a brighter future for our youth. There is a collective deep need and a strong vision for change in Colorado, and through this committee, I hope to play an active role in shaping a positive pathway forward to better youth mental and behavioral services in our state.”
-Dani Sondrol, Lived Experience Advisory Committee Co-Chair
“As co-chair, my goal is to listen to the lived experiences of our committee, the families I have had the opportunity to serve, and my own family’s journey, prioritizing the real areas of need we are severely lacking. I am committed to bringing forward creative, family-centered, neuroaffirming approaches—no matter a family’s demographic, geographic, or developmental circumstances.”
-Jerrica Thurston, Lived Experience Advisory Committee Co-Chair
