As I reflect over my years of motherhood, I am reminded of how many lessons it has taught me. I have learned more about love and suffering. I have grown in my prayer life. I have been reminded that my plans for my children are different than God’s plans for my children. I have learned that salvation is of the Lord. Perhaps most of all, I have learned that motherhood is ministry, and one of my main responsibilities, according to Scripture, is to present my children mature in Christ. Like Paul, who struggled to present his spiritual children mature in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit, we are to do all that we can by warnings and wisdom, prayer and proclamation, encouragement and edification, to establish our children in the faith. Whether you’re a biological mother, or a spiritual mother, or both, do you proclaim Christ to those under your care, asking God to use you to establish them in the faith?
