How would you answer a woman who asked you, "What does it mean to walk with the Lord?" Would you give her a long list of things to do, such as dressing modestly, having a regular quiet time with the Lord, reading certain books, or seeking certain experiences? It is tempting to focus on regulating our behavior, but this misses an important truth about the Christian faith. Christ alone can deliver us from temptation and give us the power we need to say "no" to sin and "yes" to the Spirit. Instead of looking at a list of human regulations, we need to look to Christ, recognize the spiritual blessings we have in Him, and rely on His power to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. In Colossians 2:6-23, Paul reminds us that regulations according to human teachings can’t save us. In fact, they enslave us. But when we are united to Christ by faith, not only are our sins forgiven, but we can walk in newness of life.
